My news article was about a different avalanche. It is really big news in Japan today. It is hard for me to tell whether the instructors were University Ski Instructors or Resort Instructors.

OTARI, Nagano -- A female university student who had been in a coma after being hit by an avalanche at a ski field here died on Monday morning, while another female student remains in a coma, police said.
Investigators are questioning two ski instructors who held a lesson for seven students including the two in an off-piste zone at the Tsugaike Kogen ski ground in Otari, Nagano Prefecture, on Sunday afternoon, on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death and injury.
Aki Ogi, 20, a sophomore student at Aichi University from Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, died on Monday morning, while another sophomore, Mayu Otake, 20, from Chiryu, Aichi Prefecture, remains in a coma.
The two fell unconscious after being trapped in an avalanche while taking a ski lesson at the Tsugaike Kogen ski field at around 2 p.m. on Sunday. The group was part of 79 students who were to take part in the university's ski lessons slated to be held between Thursday last week and Monday.
Rescue officials said the off-piste zone where the two instructors held the lesson was prone to avalanches. On Sunday, approximately 20 centimeters of snow fell in the area.

Thanks for the link. Have you stayed in the area or tried Seki Onsen, yet? -
Interested in trying Seki Onsen for a day when visiting Suginohara. Anyone know how long it takes to get to Seki Onsen? I am guessing there is not a shuttle service between Suginohara and Seki Onsen.
Also, if anyone has a recommendation of a place to stay that is half-way between Suginohara and Seki Onsen, please post.

I was just indicating my search result to confirm. No mistake.
I was just searching and noticed the units. The speed of the internet!
-
One more thing.
How about adding a Boarders Okay search option. I think there are a few resorts that are still skiier only in Japan.
-
the longest course run length should indicate the units. I put in 1 thinking the units was Kilometers and then I put in 1000. It appears the units are in meters.
Longest run in Hokkaido over 1000m was Pippu. Of course, I think I also required more than 9 courses and 8/9 lifts.

A good night was had at the White Horse Hotel. The Aussie Bar-b-que was excellent and hit the spot for a gaijin not having western type food in a very, very long time.
Luckily, I had a room reserved at the White Horse Hotel and was able to enjoy the full service offerings. Great place to stay. Staff is extremely friendly and accomodating.
P.S. You can enjoy the Aussie Bar-b-que every Friday night at the White Horse Hotel.

Getting in on Saturday around 6am. Wish I could have been there by Friday, 6am.

Great Video. I had to look up the name Ken Block. I wish I could snow dust like the subaru.

I have used Nihontsu Express and Yokohama Movers. They were very efficient and careful in packing everything. They also have English speaking staffers for the orientation and a crew chief that speaks English.

Yeah! Show up on the 26th with stickers! ..and free lift tickets. .. and beer ..

I will be over in 25 days if you would be so kind to hold me some.
Sarge,
where you going to be in 25 days? Which resort, town, etc.? -
I am wearing the Smith Phenom Gold Sensor Mirror. It works all through the day and even good on night riding.
Only potential problem area is if you have light color eyes and it is a bright sunny day - the sun can be a little harsh.

I have some rocks. Bring your head. -
Now I do. Looks like a better option than ski poles, because you can conceal your weapon. Switchblade style poles!

Save me the 90 Yen postage!

I sent the e-mail for the hookup.

How about a picture of the sticker?

A quote of a quote from Fattwins that is more stupid than the original quote from Mamabear!
This would be the time I was very thankful that Niseko gradient was not too steep, huh? At least you get to go home!
The majority of avalanches happen on slopes that average 25 to 35 degrees.
"not too steep" is subjective.
I thought I would stir the pot. Now somebody please quote me to make it an even more stupid quote of a quote.
Abunai Daizu!
