  2. Yeah, I gave Google and Babelfish a go the other night. Interesting stuff... that's why I posted here
  3. I have written a couple of emails in English to Toyru ski hire place in Niseko Hirafu and haven't heard anything from them. So, a friend of mine will help me and re-write the email in Japanese and will probably need help with some terminology as he isn't a skier. Could someone give me a hand with some key words? What is the Japanese for: Telemark skis - Alpine skis - Telemark skis and boots - Alpine skis and boots - What brand of boots do you have? - Powder skis - I can't think of anything else I would need that is skiing related. Thanks for any help,
  4. Hi all, Have done a quick search for something in Niseko Hirafu but nothing solid turned up. Would love to find somewhere in town that you can rock up to after the lifts close, park your skis, trundle on in with boots on, grab a beer or two, Jaegermeister/mulled wine/vin chaud (or Japanese equivalent!), listen to a band, laugh at some karaoke stars, become one yourself and smile at people you don't know. It'd be good to get some pointers before we get there. Just don't want to wander the streets looking for something that might not be there. Not necessarily after a drin
  5. Thanks Quattro, As I am a new member I haven't racked up enough posts to be eligible for PM posting yet. If you can be bothered you can send any info you have to xxxxxx. Mammabear: that link is useful, thanks. As to skiing deep powder you'll have to ask my wife. She's the nutter. Actually, she's an excellent downhiller but seems to be going to the other side.
  6. Okay, thanks, Our accomm. provider isn't a huge skier and didn't know about tele gear places. I have found this crew 'Niseko Toyru' who I think only deal with telemark. Babel Fish makes it interesting to find the relevant info :-) I thought I'd get the details sorted now to gaurantee getting gear, but maybe that's overkill. Cheers.
  7. Am going to Niseko Hirafu this season and my wife wants to rent tele-gear for the week. Does anyone know which places hire out boots and skis? Thanks.
  8. Great. Thanks for the answers. Relieved to know I don't have to stress around researching more gear, before the trip. Re Guides: Should I book this before the trip to guarantee a place or will I always be able to find a company for the next day when in Niseko? Have found the 3 schools here on SJ (Niseko Base Snowsports, Niseko Higashiyama Snow School and SAS Snowsports) or are there a whole host I should look into? Cheers!
  9. Hi all, Am planning trip to Niseko with my wife. My wife is an excellent skier with me being fairly competent on the soft stuff, but definitely not hero status (never been deeper that knee high). I imagine we will be skiing any 'off-piste' nook and cranny we can find within or next to the resort, and of course even the designated ungroomed runs, depending on the state they will be in. Going back country on hikes isn't our thing as I have no avi experience. My wife has done a number of half day search and rescue sessions and skied heaps of off-piste in Europe, always with guides who
