  1. We are in the middle of trying to get our wedding plans going now. With families on opposite sides of the world, it makes things fairly complex even for the relatively low-key affair we are going for.

I am interested in how other Japanese/foreign couples did it - one main wedding in one country with two parties/receptions (on in each country). I think we will be getting married overseas but there's lots of Japanese family that won't be able to make that trek and we need to get something going here too.

  2. If a hotel doesn't have English info, site, signs etc, people should not expect them to cater directly to the people that need those things. I wouldn't anyway. I know some people who own places and they just get nervous at potential problems. Silly, and rather naive, yes, but the reality. As long as they treat people with respect/friendly... it's when they are downright rude that is not acceptable.

  3. Mate sent me this last night.

(Cheeky git if you ask me, but...)

Seems the wrong way round somehow doesn't it?

The mystery of why some people stay slim while others get fat may be partly explained by differences between the way individuals' brains measure the pleasure of eating.

Overweight people may actually find fatty or sugary food less satisfying than thin people, which leads them to overeating as a way of compensating for the relative lack of enjoyment.

A study of the brains of young women and adolescent girls found significant differences in the way thin and overweight individuals responded to drinking a chocolate milkshake, compared with a tasteless drink.

Using a scanner that measured the amount of activity in the "pleasure centre" of the brain, and a genetic test to determine an individual's genetic makeup, scientists could even predict which of the women would put on weight during the following year.
