For those of you who are lazy and don't want to read the whole article here is some very important point: "Satellite data also undermines the theory of global warming. Most of the data suggesting that there is global warming was collected over the last 140 years from recorded temperatures. Now satellites are used to record temperatures. Satellites, which measure temperatures all over the world, they show no real trend in any direction, in fact in recent decades, they show a global cooling."

Bushpig, the naysayers (as you call them) are many, and the proofs behind them are also many. And since then truth has been equal to majority? In the past,most people believed the earth was flat. For me it's irrelevant how many people believe in something, just show me the proof for your argument and if it makes sense I'll believe it. And as the article I submitted describes the proofs that they showed us are deliberately not accurate and lack scientist rigor.

skidaisuki, you are not pedantic but maybe you should read my post again. I said serious scientists not anyone. And consensus is not what you say, for some people is what you say for other people is something else, there's no consensus on what consensus is :-D. At least that's what I understand. Anyway, I'm sorry if we are turning this post into a philosophical discussion which was not my intention. With the article I submitted, I just wanted to offer you guys some other points of view on global warming from the scientific community.

Fattwins, Eskimobasecamp, I'm actually quite happy to get snow this early. I was born in Spain so I can speak Spanish... In Spanish there's an old saying that says "anio de nieves, anio de bienes". The translation would read something like "a year with plenty of snow is a year with plenty of goodness", and believe me is quite old saying so I doubt they were skiing or boarding when they were using it.

The article that I submitted is just an example that there's no consensus. I recommend you read it, just to have a different opinion to contrast.

The current situation does not even satisfy the definition that you have taken from wikipedia. There's no general agreement, there are plenty of voices who don't agree, the problem is that they don't make it to the headlines as often. We can't be naive. In my view, there's consensus that the earth is round, and things like that. That's what I called consensus, you won't find any serious scientist who argues against it. But you will do find scientist arguing against the current mainstream view in the media regarding global warming.

Consensus is when ALL scientists agree, which is obviously not the case with global warming. It seems that sometimes when the media repeats the same thing over and over, it magically becomes true. Who said there is consensus on global warming? Anyway, I agree with you that we need to do something, but I think we have a right to know what's really happening. Or at least a right to know that in fact they don't really know what's happening.

Science is about being objective, and is based on facts, not on what somebody thinks is good for the future of the world. The facts when they are facts can never be wrong, but somebody's perception of what is good for the future is very subjective. I am not arguing we shouldn't care for the environment, I am just saying scientists should be more honest about what they know, instead of just scare the heck out of people for the "greater good". In my opinion it is just not ethical.

Just checked snow-forecast.com and 6-day forecast is free. You have to give your email address though and answer 2 questions: 1. boarder/skier? 2.favourite resort. They promise they won't give your email to any 3rd party. Until today 3 day forecast was free, but you had to pay for 6 day forecast. I don't know if they've decided to make it free, or is only for a limited time, but anyway use it while you can.

moloney, you have a point, but I don't believe there's any justification for lying to the general public. Whatever the reasons behind it. And I doubt that any good can come from lying to people.

As for your theory on the Antarctica I think is flawed. It is a scientific fact and you can read in the article about that the Antarctica has been constantly cooling down for the past 30 years.

Go Native, I disagree with you. The glaciers I'm speaking about are not advancing because of sliding, they are increasing in volume. In New Zealand this year they have had huge amount s of snowfall. Even in Australia they've hit temperatures below 0 in places where it is unheard of. I'm really interested in your theory that the glaciers are advancing because of an increase in temperature, so I'd appreciate if you can give me some references.

I am actually in favour of finding clean alternatives to coil, petrol, etc... and using them. But not because of global warming, but because is better for our environment and the air that we breath. I am quite skeptic about humans being able to alter something so powerful and complicated as climate, especially when you consider that our emissions account for such an small percentage of the total CO2 emitted by other organisms. One of the things that I find most amusing is that 30 years ago the hype was not on global warming but on global cooling. It seems that somebody is really intereste

I'll hopefully be in Niseko 28th dec until 6th jan. Ill be going with my wife and a few other friends. They have various levels but we don't have to be together all the time. I am quite comfortable with black runs, and done little off-piste. Not much into park but don't close any doors. If anybody from SJ is going, I'd like to meet and maybe ride or ski together.

Spooky spook, I think you are right mate. Weather is pretty much unpredictable, especially that far in time. But hey, I had to ask. For all you guys who are going around the same time as me I hope the weather is great,cold and with plenty of dry pow. Happy boarding/skiing!

Well guys, I was actually speaking about monthly average. I've been boarding a couple of times in souther Spain, Sierra Nevada. U can see Africa from the top of the highest run which is about about 3,300m and is really warm there. However, the temperature has gone down to -50C sometimes because of how high the resort is, but it isn't representative at all. The average for January is -6C. I still think that if we consider the monthly average Furano or asahidake would be amongst the coldest. But definitely, for those of you who don't know, the coldest has to be a resort in Bolivia (I cant rememb

Actually, I just checked sunpeaks website and it says the average temperature in January is -6C... That's about the same as Niseko or even higher.
