Mantas, we left from Guthega. I have a GPS log at home (at work right now), I will upload it tonight, it has a toppo map and all the creeks and peaks marked.

This report was written for ski.com.au in Aus so some of the names may not be familiar to this forum, sorry guys!! I also know that aus snow and terrain is not as epic as Japan but it is fun all the same, so here goes:
I managed to pick Hopey up from a station on the airport line in Sydney by around 5:30pm Wednesday after my plan of getting to the airport by 4pm was thwarted by Apec and that pesky thing called work! We got on our way and had a sweet run to Jindy and on the way we stopped at Rhythm and drooled over their impressive range of phat skis at sale prices!
We awoke early the next morning and headed to Guthega. Set off from Guthega at around 9:30 in the am! The creek was slightly higher than our previous trip making for an interesting crossing to say the least. We hiked for quite some time thru carpy heath and other vegetation until we got onto skinable snow about 1km from Illawong bridge. Once on the snow the pace picked up a bit and we got to camp around 12:30 after quite a leisurely trip. We set up camp and then headed for a short tour to Twynam. The cloud had other ideas and we quickly changed our tune to Anton, a wise move as the vis and snow were far better for a late afternoon jaunt!
Friday we awoke to the last of our merry sextet who had arrived during the night. We headed up to Twynam with a view of heading towards Watsons Creek. The snow was softening nicely and we had a cracker of a first run, so good that I decided a second was in order! Action goat was going for his top 10, have to admire the mans dedication and experience.....he did so many super sweet lines in three days touring!!! So on this day he added Siren Song Creek and Watsons Crags North to his list of "done that"
We headed back down the NE face of Twynam, always a great run back to camp.
Saturday headed west again, our humble aim was Siren Song whilst AG was keen for Caruthers chutes, Sentinel Ridge etc. We got to Siren Song Creek and had a couple of very nice runs. We turned back to camp early and hit Twynam on the way of course. The lads sessioned a little booter just above camp whilst the older folk sat and sunk p1ss!
Sunday we humped straight back to Guthega whilst AG went and bagged a few more of his top ten, West Twynam and I think the Crags South aswell???
Overall we had a brilliant time skiing some spectacular terrain with an excellent crew of Caboose, Hopey, Positron, Action Goat, Taxman and yours truly! It was one of those trips that nobody really wanted to go home from, the weather was stunning and them thar hills had some really fun skiing!
Thanks to all those who made it there, and also to TF and his bro for showing me and Caboose around a few weeks back, have learnt so many things in the last couple of trips, it has been magnificent!
Now for the vid! Its long, around 12 mins and its quite big too (25mb), so dial up beware!!

The two times I have paid a professional guide in Japan I have thought I got my moneys worth. Once was with Chuck Olbery out of Furano (Backcountry Powdertracks) and one was with Dave Enright from Evergreen in Hakuba. Both times I was impressed with their professionalism and advice. I do believe that bad guides exist, but ask around before you book and people will tell you!

I don't really have any more than on here, and this thread http://forum.ski.com.au/ultimate/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=018187

It seems the skier died of a brain annurism, was most likely dead before he hit the tree.
-
I feel for this more than for a car death because it is snow related and we all think of it as a fun recreation activity. This sort of event reminds us that we are human and need to respect nature.
I don't know if that is wrong, or if it makes sense, its just what I feel!! Also felt bad for the guy in Jackson last week and Coombes last season and all other snow deaths I heard of.

Careful checking straight through.....we checked straight throught to Sapporo in Sydney last year (the check in lady was adamant that we could do it!)
We left Narita without our bags, got to our hotel in haneda and then got a message saying our bags were waiting for us to go through customs at Narita....a real pain.....may not happen on the way back though as they wont have to go through customs, but they would have to transport your bags between airports...that means $$$$$.....be sure that they can do it!!!
-
I hoped that I had heard wrongly....I heard it on the ski.com.au forums.
Condolences to the family.
-
It is very much hearsay, please do not take it too seriously until it is confirmed, I could have been fed a line, but why anyone would make something like that up is beyond me!
-
Go to Ginza, check out the lights, you can change at Nippori for that I believe. Go to Akhiabara (SP??)to check out the electronics on the way back to the airport, and right next door is the Kanda ski shop district. Or you could check out a shinto temple, they are pretty cool. If you get lost just open a lonely planet guide and look at some signs, someone will offer you assistance in English within about 30 seconds, the Japanese are a great bunch of people

I heard an aussie from Byron Bay area hit a tree in Niseko today and died.....can anyone in the area confirm this????
-
Fristchie Explores for $184 US!!!!
-
Black Diamond mits right now....pretty nice!
-
That is bollocks FT....the horn used to blow, but has been retired. OOB is not permitted in Furano, but can be done if you are a little bit stealthy (not alot!).
The good thing about Furano is that they don't let people ski OOB, so it lasts fresh for ages for those that do

Get rid of those pesky shoes....bring on the good stuff!

i'd never hike with tunes on...
I am talking Aussie hiking, no av danger or really challenging terrain. -
FT, I only just started, used to be like you on that issue, but with the helmet tunes I have them low enough to hear everything and still chat, just background music, and maybe turn it up a bit when hiking, but not much. It can be social or antisocial, depends on the user.

With the tunes????
-
That helmet is a sweet deal!
-
Those skis were crap!
Oakley sunnies now...boring!

Lots of rabbits, not much else, although the drive up saw lots of kangaroos, wallabies and the odd wombat!
