  1. Going on current form New Zealand should take it out, but that hasn't helped them in the last 5 campaigns.. The world cup is up grabs for any team that can put it all together and rise to the occasion. It's hard to imagine not seeing them there in the final in their home country though.

  2. Even a 'minor' riot in the UK would upstage anything we've ever experienced here.

Things are a lot better here than they were 5-10 years ago, when racial and social tensions were high in a few places, thanks to a lot of effort made by communities and governments. I was encouraged to see the government finally consented to a full public inquiry into the riots after much pressure from the coalition. Comments bordering on denial certainly portray an attitude of indifference to the problem.

Really? Attack from migrants? What do you mean?
BTW. Some of the roits that didn't happen.
Welling riots, October 1993. A march organised by the ANLthe SWP and Militant resulted in riots against the Metropolitain police.
The 1995 Brixton riot against the Metropolitan Police occurred after a death in police custody.
The 1999 Carnival Against Capitalism riot
The 2000 anti-capitalist May Day riot
The 2001 May Day riot in central London by anti-capitalist protestors.
In 2009 G-20 London summit protests occurred in the days around the G-20 summit.
The 2011 England riots, initially in London, following the police shooting of Mark Duggan in Tottenham

  4. I wasn't refering to you Muika.

This article in the Guidian says it all.

Other comparable cities like New York, Stockholm, Sydney ... have wealthy people, but not as many wealthy people as London," said Dorling. "There is an inbuilt bias towards inequality in UK society today.

Add to that David some David Cameron quotes

    Multiculturalism has failed.

There are pockets of our society that are not just broken but frankly sick.

It is clear that there are things that are badly wrong with our society.

I think my comments were pretty mild compared to his but as an Australian apparently I'm not qualified to comment on such loffty matters.

    Tally Ho grandpa

  5. Just repeating the words of your PM mate. And who said anything about 'racial and social dispariies'? confused Say it for yourself if that's what you think. Don't try and make it sound like it come from me.

    Little bit sensitive are we?

  6. Seemore has a point though. The 'us and them' mentality is a direct product of the 'sick' society than Gordon Brown talks about. London has the greatest disparity of wealth distribution of any city in Europe. Until these issues are addressed the problem is not going to go away no matter how hard the police crack down is. The response by the police was necessary though to maintain order and it's the duty of any state to do that to keep the citizens safe.

Geez,.. what a basket case British society has become.

No I'm afraid your stuck with them this time.
I've always thought they got it back to front. They should've left all the convicts in England and move the rest down here, but I suppose that would've been to inhumane to leave them there.

    Exactly Wiggle man!
It's only a small part of a much broader problem but it typifies the cultural attitude of these thugs. Gansta rap is like a mantra to them. I could just imagine these hooded clown listening to Dogg Pound singing
"Nigga, I buy new blocks for war
A few shots, a broad, that make you drop
Then I'ma pop two cops or more
I'm too hot, come through wit two proper whores

to put them right in the mood for a bit of looting.

They probably wont be looking at video games... well not until they look at aspirations, poverty, relative opportunity, access to facilities, community relations, policing, family, schooling and everything else you have to look at on sink estates

All but a handful of countries in the world have these issues. So what inspires these UK kids to behave with such disrespect and violence?

If their parents can't teach them respect and moral decency then it's time the state did. I blame these civil libertarians and a censorship system that allows a basic free for with porn, violent video games, movies and music.

This might sound draconian but look at where we are at. Total anarchy!

Classy - blaming porn, violent video games, movies and music.

    rolleyes
So what would you say is the main influence on young people's minds these days when there's total parental moral vacuum? Norwiegan killer Anders Behring stated that his MAIN training to carry out his klllings came from an extremely violent video game.
I not blaming video games, music etc. directly. That would be ridiculous. It's all part of a cultural attitude of' I don't give a F$&k 'and authorities are reluctant to intervene in fear of encroaching on people's civil liberties.

It couldn't get much worse than what we are seeing now. At least it would be a show of control.
  13. People from poor, rough parts of any city, in any country feel disconnected and rejected from the rest of society IMO. I'm sure that they have justified it in their own minds that anything they do in rebellion against the 'system' is OK and the system's laws don't apply to them.

Western societies are a basket case these days. Too much liberty. grandpa

A similar thing happened in Western Sydney a few years ago and who could forget the LA riots?

It's all relative. I have just come back from a month in Indonesia. The locals would make me laugh. At dawn they would be shivering and rubbing their hands together. I would be sitting next to them in shorts and no shirt.

It's bloody warm today. 25deg! And it's right in the middle of winter.
