  1. There is another report today in "Hakuba Now"

You may have already heard of the avalanche that happened at Tsugaike Ski area. This was a slide on the resort that slid from permanently closed terrain and ran across the cat track that was also closed do to avalanche hazard. There was a group of beginner snow boarders that ducked the rope into the cat track and was struck by the size 2.5 slide on the cat track. All people were found however 2 of the victims were taken off the mountain yesterday in comas and all reports state that they are still in coma.

The lesson to be learned here is that signs posting avalanche danger mean it! Stay out of these areas as it is not just yourselves that you are putting at risk it is others on slopes below as well.

I will not enter closed ares!

I will not enter closed ares!

I will not enter closed ares!

I wish all a fast recovery!

Thanks to SJF to remind us that winter sport has its dangers too. It's good to keep that awareness alive and still have fun.

  2. It's not a joke. The flight will fit 50 people (I guess half will be journalists). It's just a day trip to one of the German baltic sea islands. You go back at night.

At €499 (US$730 > ¥77000) I find that REALLY expensive. You can fly for €50 for almost anywhere within Europe, but only dressed.

I also wonder if it's really make sense. You board dressed, and you unboard dressed. Doesn't make sense. Specially going undressed through the security check could save valuable time.

I guess it's just a marketing stunt, and it worked, getting the company worldwide attention. Even in a Japanese ski forum.

  3. Mantas

Cool picture. They better stay out of reach of the Japanese whale hunters sonar.

It's true that there are now fewer nudist beaches in Germany, but that is because nearly all beaches are mixed and you constantly see naked people.

     Quote:
so, how many of them are mile-high club members I wonder?

Nudity is not about sex. You also don't see gangbangs on beaches. When I go into a sauna in Germany or Scandinavia nearly all are mixed. very few are segregated. No gangbangs there either.

I'm not sitting on those seats.

The seats get full covers. There were more detailed reports in the German press.

Also no hot drinks will be served. I wonder if they give out blankets.

  4. I had one teeth taken out some years ago in Hong Kong. Chinese dentist, UK trained. Got one painkiller injection. Didn't feel a thing. Still remember the cracking noise though. But tooth came out in one piece. Root digging tools were on hand, but not used.

No pain at all. I thought pain comes in some hours later, but never did.

When I see Japanese girls, once you take your eyes off the silicone enhanced parts, I notice teeth that seem to be put in in random order quite often.

I know someone's girlfried died after having her wisdom tooth pulled. They couldn't stop the bleeding.

After the removal you need a rest period. I did not and went straight back to work. The bleeding really went on for a long time, I think for the rest of the day. So follow the docs advise.

  5. I just had a look at "Hakuba Now", there is said today:

******Pay extreme caution - person buried in avalanche yesterday. Yesterday a rider was completely buried after a friend above him set of a slab avalanche and was found by a beacon search 5 minutes later. This avalanche triggered on a south facing ridge. Not a bowl, not a face, a ridge. Without beacons, gear, knowledge and experience this would be a much sadder story. Pay extreme caution!*********

I got 2 questions about it:

    1. Where did/does it happen? On the slopes or somewhere remote in areas were you are not supposed to go in the first place? I will stick to slopes and seldom go to very nearby ungroomed ares, but wouldn't move far off or into mountain areas.

    2. What's a beacon? Sounds like a transmitter or transponder device.

PS: I am glad there was a happy end.

  6. OK, I did my research, there is Vii in China. Probably made by Chintendo?

But it's joke, even not a funny one. There are videos on youtube. Vii has no CD drive. It's basically an empty box with a small PC board inside. Games are hard loaded on the PCB. So you can't run other games, and certainly not Wii games. So it's not copatible to Wii at all.

I saw the Vii for RMB599 on Taobao, that's about ¥9000 - and I think that is expensive for the crap you get.

You can do a google on "wii vs. vii" for a good laugh.

In legal terms it's not stealing. Please consult a lawyer, they will confirm that. You will be charged with copyright violations, not theft. If you steal a game in the shop, that it's theft.

It's technically not stealing since it's not physical property, but's certainly illegal in many jurisdictions.

If they catch you (depending on the jurisdiction) you will get charged with copyright violations, not with stealing. We had one guy going to jail in HK some time last year for uploading some B-movies nobody watched anyway. And that was really jail, not probation!

We have certainly the same opinion about that.

The games are all free and legal? Great! How come we don't all know about that?

It's a small step they haven't thought about too much, or don't really bother about since it's getting quite technical and probably way beyond the normal home user. As long as I can buy a game I just buy it, as long as it's available. My game demand is very low anyway, maybe 2 a year will do. Just like to do some fun stuff, no shoot+kill, racing or arcade stuff for me.
  10. Why is a Modchip stealing? It's even not illegal in any way.

IMHO are regions already protected by different languages. You can not compare games to DVDs, which often come in different languages on one DVD.

Anyway, the Wii is coded and I know what to do about. Nintendo still makes money on the console, and on a few games. Peace.

Why is that? Please explain in detail (if you can).

The regionfree approached worked very well for NDS. Those who download games will do that anyway. But those who can handle different languages games are ducked and need to buy a 2nd Wii (who would do that?)

I simply can't see any benefit in region codings. The majority is locked out by language anyway. But, let's say' a bilingual JP family in the US can not run JP games on their US Wii, losing one chance to get the kids a bit closer to JP language.

I'll go for the cracked one.

    Don't get a Japanese version.

I'm not sure specifically about HK, but I've read from many places that Wii's in China are region-free, meaning you can play Japanese games OR American games, without having to hack your Wii, which would of course void the warranty and also oftentimes make it incompatible with future online content upgrades.

I haven't checked China (yet). But I doubt what you write. Most consoles don't even get released in China because of the rampant copying. The Wii you will find in China will be mostly JP gray imports I guess. And they will be modchipt too.

It's a pity that Nintendo is so shortsighted and forces people to using cracked consoles. To have a block on games that are not from your region is silly. Now one will get a modchip Wii and can simply download all games from the web for free. Normally I don't bother spending $50 on a game, but I would knowing that can't run.

1.5 weeks till Japan! Time to start a shopping list!

Can you buy an English Wii in Japan (Tokyo)? How much ¥?

Why don't you buy a HK WII? Tweaked of cours in Golden.

In HK they offer mainly the JP version. US Version is quite a bit more expensive. HK$3200 original, or HK$3600 with modchip.

Just wanted to check if JP US version is cheaper, as I go there anyway soonly.

(Coz it's bad, I really have nothing to buy in JP)

PS: what you mentioned is already plan B.

You must have some people in Hakuba - why not fix a meeting point and everybody that buys you a beer gets one? The White Horse Bar sounds central....

Because woodcutters in the Kyushu region take only salted whale meat and rice when they go into the mountains, they would also be troubled. They slice the meat and pour hot water over it to make a delicious soup containing a lot of protein and salt. Since their work is very strenuous, the salted whale meat soup replenishes the salt they lose through perspiration. Therefore this soup is indispensable as a source of their energy.

That is wrong. You get enough, usually too much, salt with normal food consumption. You don't have to replace salt. In fact, you don't really need salt. It's written as if there is no other food at all. I wonder if the writer has ever been to a supermarket.
