  1. Hi all, Have tried a few searches for this topic in the forums, with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for nearby accommodation bases if planning to ride/ski Asahidake? Thanks in advance. sv
  2. Hey all, flying in to Sapporo on the evening of Mar 6, arriving around 1800. Looks like all public transport to Niseko has finished by this time, but I recall hearing about a private company that makes the run, does anyone know any further details? Any other info on getting up to Niseko at that hour, or reasonably-priced places to stay near the airport for the night would be appreciated.
  3. audas, i'm arriving in niseko jan 22, will be there until feb 4. i've been boarding for many years, but my girlfriend only started last year, so i was going to mix up my runs, from cruising with her to heading out on my own and chasing some steeper stuff. we're aussies, based in hong kong. she'll be there until the 27th, and then a couple of mates from oz head up to join me. anyways, pm or email me if you're keen for a few runs and want to do some hiking.
  4. Hi, Can anyone recommmend the best place to fly into from overseas if I'm trying to get to Hakuba, and how long, at a rough guess, it would take by land transport from the nearest airports to the resorts. Just after ballpark figures for planning purposes, thanks
  5. Okay, that seems to have solved things for me. . . thianks to the administrator for switching on the PMs, and also to those of you good enough to offer your company for hitting the hill. I'll most likely PM some of you guys in a few weeks, once I have sorted out accom and the final destinations. Due to the reviews you've given me, I'm also considering a week at Hakuba, and a week at Niseko - all good! If anyone requires someone to fill space at a lodge between Jan 22 and Feb 5, either Hakuba or Niseko, let me know. Cheers.
  6. Fattwins, sorry about that, I think that I can't send a PM until I rack up X amount of posts, apparently. Anyways, I sent an email to you, via the SJ site. Let me know if you have/haven't received it, cheers.
  7. Thanks a lot, the info is much appreciated. I've checked out a few places to stay via the SJ accom site, and Fattwins, I've PM'd you also with my prefs . . . see what you make of it. I'll drop in another post a bit closer to my departure, and see if anyone is there to catch up with for some riding/skiing. TJ, I might catch you there, take it easy all.
  8. Sounds good mate, I'll look into Hakuba also. How do you rate the accommodation in Hakuba? I'm planning on being in Japan about Jan 22, and I don't really have a preference on which mountain/s I visit, so long as the riding is good and there is (hopefully) some decent snow about. And yeah, I'd be keen to catch up for some trails if that suits your plans also.
  9. Cheers all. TJ, it sounds like you've done some time over there, the bigger stuff you refer to - where is it? Anything that also leans towards the backcountry would be good.
  10. Hey, now's it going? I'm an aussie guy, heading solo to Japan for some boarding in late jan/early feb, for about 2-3 weeks. Am most likely going to ride at Niseko, as it seems like a decent enough place for powder and free-riding. I was wondering whether anyone had any suggestions for accommodation (luxury not required), and what the potential for free-riding was like at Niseko. Most of my riding o/s has been done on larger hills and in the backcountry of Nth and Sth America, but friends who have visted Niseko rated it highly. Any advice? Also, if anyone is going to be there around the same ti
