I've been able to get accurate, up to the minute intel on conditions and the ongoing situation on Hokkaido. There is nothing to suggest that the decision to travel is a poor one on my part.
I have nothing to offer the relief operation on Honshu, so I'm going to vacation on Hokkaido, put money in to the Japanese economy, and through posts on the interweb forums try to give an accurate and honest opinion of the situation on Hokkaido during my visit.
Cool Mike. If it's cool with you, what else matters.
Out of interest does your "intel" give you insight into things that the rest of us don't know, re: what happens now and potential risks ahead?
Perhaps you should tell NHK, CNN and BBC!

Honestly, I think people would have to be slightly potty to want to visit Japan right now.

Amazing images
Love the close-ups of the snow on that mountainside like the one below. Looks like an alien planet or something.

Top one yes. Not the bottom one, that is actually going up on the Gondola and I couldn't find how to get there a bit out of the main area.
There were pockets of untouched nearby though.

That doesn't look like much fun.

Sadly, they were closed pie-eater.
(Since 1976 I think)

Found a good place for coffee in Naeba.
This is right next to the main day trip car park at the resort

OK found this dude yesterday.
Looked like a board, but had bindings on and he seemed to be wearing ski boots.
-
Made it to Naeba in Niigata yesterday for a day on the snow.
Conditions were pretty good, though a fair few people on the main slopes and chopped up getting heavier in the afternoon. Still decent though. It wasn't mad busy but actually more people there than I though there'd be. A fair few school trips it seems. Heard quite a bit of Chinese being spoken as well.. well, presume that's what it was.
Quite a few lifts not moving and I don't know if that's a weekday thing or not, but it seemed that everywhere was skiable even so.
Sun was strong yesterday, I think it confused my camera. Or was it me it confused. Haha. Anyway, some snaps. Not many I spent most of my time boarding.

Great photos as always.
Wonder how the visiting numbers are for Gala so far.
They must have spent a ton.

Clear day spend the whole day and get a big range of shots.
Look forward to seeing them.

Funny to watch though

Watched The Day of the Jackal (original one) yesterday - good movie, end was a bit of an anti-climax but I suppose he was never going to be successful.

Anyone get to see the Human Centipede.

Looked great actually.
Better than lugging a book round thats for sure.

Dunno but he better get out of here.
