  1. That's like eating a week's food in one day. The food bills must be huge.omg

There is a tiny little girl in my company who needs about 4,000 kcals a day. She mostly gets her calories from healthy stuff, always has plenty of energy and runs around at work but doesn't do much other exercise. She's done all sorts of medical tests but doctors can't find anything wrong.

She says the same as you though CB, that it's hard work to get that many calories in and she basically has to plan her day around it, always making sure she has food with her or that she is somewhere where she can buy it. Must make it even more stressful with all her friends saying they are jealous and wishing that they could eat like that and not worry about weight.

  2. Yep, r45. I work at a huge eye clinic combined with a glasses shop. As my boss keeps telling me, it's the biggest glasses store in Japan with 15,000-odd different frame types.

    omg

I think its quite a bit cheaper than other shops but still makes more profit. The number of customers means they can afford to buy direct from the factories/producers. The shop part makes much more profit than the clinic cos clinic prices are controlled by the government.

I work doing copyediting and teaching but I can find out whatever you need to know.

Re. wearing glasses for regular mild short-sighteness.

It seems that unless your eyesight is causing other problesm like headaches, squinting or holding your head at a funny angle, wait as long as you can because once you get used to having the good vision you will not be able to manage without the glasses. I mean if you need glasses for driving but your vision doesn't bother you outside the car, just wear them for driving. Not wearing glasses when you are slightly short-sigted will not cause your vision to deteriorate any faster or slower.

  3. I don't think 18 is a magic age when kids suddenly defy (one of) their parents. We were 8, 15 and 17(me) when my parents split up and my middle sister and I decided for ourselves where we were going to live. By the time my youngest sister was 13 she also knew what she wanted and my parents didn't see much point in forcing her otherwise.

Lots of kids are capable of making up their minds younger than 18 and many more are still heavily influenced by parents years later.

What is the legal age where someone can fly abroad without parental consent?

Had a quick look online and came up with answers ranging from 13 to 18 confused

  4. Me Tarzan once dreamt he was being chased by a giant cockroach and I was woken up half suffocating as he had me in a headlock, thinking I was the cockroach. Another time he was dreaming about something else and punched me in the mouth, giving me a fat lip! (I think I posted about that before).

  5. I notice that when I go back to the UK, Thursday, aftershave too. Japanese tend not to go the perfume/aftershave thing... or at least if they do it is very subtle.

Sometimes at home I notice the waft of a mixture of perfumes/aftershaves as a group of people walk past me. The smell makes me feel kind of nostalgic for my young, single drunken nights out on the town but it is still pretty gross.

  6. Do you have nightmares, or dreams with recurring themes? When?

Last night I dreamt that I heard the doorbell ring and that Mr Tarzan (senior) and I went to the door to have a look. The handle was turning and someone was trying to get in. Then I woke up freaked out cos I wasn't sure if the doorbell had really rung or if I had dreamt it. I think I've had this dream before.

My mum always told me that eating cheese before bed will give you nightmares but I have't noticed that. If I have a nightmare it's usually because I am too hot. Last night I put the aircon on and went back to sleep. Hate sleeping in aircon though.

  7. My parents sat down together and decided who was getting what and how access to my little sister was going to work. They were both happy with the arrangements, went to two lawyers (cos that's what the law requires in the UK) and the respective lawyers caused a load of bitterness & fighting by convincing each of my parents that they were getting a raw deal. Months later my parents sat down with each other again, agreed that they were both happy with their original plan and took this back to the lawyers instructing them not to ask for anymore or less as both parties were happy. The lawyers spent 6 more months fighting and then came to the same agreement my parents had written up more than a year previously.

  8. I used to do it but have stopped. It seemed to mess up the printers and I've had to replace two printers. They never printed colour well. Also the cartridges seem to wear out so you can't refil them indefinitely. I used to have to buy new cartridges about every 5 refills. Use medical syringes to refill with or without the needle depending on the type of cartridge you are refilling - loads cheaper than the ones they sell for refilling but exactly the same thing. The office stationary catalogues like Askul sell big bottles. Rakuten sells them too. I bought a 160ml bottle of each colour for 3000yen per bottle. I refilled for about 3 or 4 years and only had to buy one new black bottle.

I would recommend doing it if you have two printers. Keep one printer for quality stuff and photos and only use new cartridges and then use the other printer with refills where colour and quality don't matter.

  9. Have been wondering if MMT will be able to make his debut this season. He will be 2 at the end of October. Does anyone know what gear is available for really little people. Can I put him on real skis or does he have to use those plastic things they sell in the supermarket? He has quite small feet for his age and is still in the smallest size of shoes they make.

What are the plans for Toddlers Fattwins and Thursday? What did other people do?
