  1. I think with Alexander, a lot of it's problems had to do with bad press even before the film was released. Apparently a lot of people were put off by knowing that the portrayal of Alexander was as a bisexual.

But I haven't seen it, so I may be wrong: it might just really suck.

  2. I have two friends who have each told me independent stories about discovering used girls underwear vending machines, which even come with a photo of their prior owner. One said he saw them in [one of?] the 'Pink Light' district/s in Tokyo. I think it was near Shibuya or Shinjuku, but I might have conjured that from some other story.

There's something extremely wrong with the idea of that, but I'm not really surprised given the fascination with Japanese girls over there ... especially some of the stuff in those Manga comics. Very disturbing indeed.

Having said that, there's a (seemingly ordinary) bar here in Melbourne which has a dildo, nipple clamp, whip, & condom vending machine. It's quite funny watching people walk up to it when they're pissed thinking it's a drink machine ... the look on their faces - priceless.

  3. I agree - 'The Aviator' looks good, I've read a bit about Howard Hughes in the past - interesting (if not overly philanthropic) fella. Of course with Cate Blanchett & Kate Beckinsale on board it should be pretty easy to watch.

'The Incredibles' was the most fun movie I've seen this summer (well, winter actually since I saw it in Japan).

    I'm seeing 'Sideways' tonight.

  4. Similar to farquah, i like to think that all the decisions i've made - good or bad - have gotten me to where i am in life today, which is a pretty good spot.

But if a time-travelling DeLorean suddenly appeared in front of me, I'd probably go back:

    a) About 8 years when working for a friend of mine who opened his own restaurant, and quit as soon as he started saying "I'll pay you next week" rather than 9 months later (money can quickly affect friendships that way), .... and

    B) About 9 years ago when I went for my very last Ski, when the hire person said "Skiing or Boarding?" - because I hadn't boarded, and wanted to impress my friends since I was a decent skier, I chose not to board. What a mistake, I would've gotten into it 5 years (and one 'bicycle vs car' accident) sooner.

....oh, and since I was going back in time, i'd probably take a Sports Almanac with me too.

I wouldn't buy Burton products- personal choice.
Fair enough ... i thought that might be it, but i just wanted to make sure there wasn't something majorly wrong with the brand that i didn't know about. I did a little research before buying, but not a lot. In the end they were the most comfortable boot (by far) to fit my size 30.5 hoof (other brands I tried were Salomon, Ride, Nitro & DeeLuxe)
  6. I agree with snowglider on that one (Spicy = crappy boards) ... but then again, they were the only place around that had size 31 boots .... it was just unfortunate the widest board they had was about 25cm at the waist (serious toe drag).

NOTE: I was told that Spicy don't deliver to Hotels that provide their own rental ... since the Hotels don't like to see people specifically not using their gear.

Never heard of most of the above.
In which case, you should check out:
Eternal Sunchine of the Spotless Mind
    House of Flying Daggers
    Sideways

3 of the better (non-mainstream) films mentioned above.

But yes ... the raspberries are indeed fun to see listed. I just think of the producers & studio bosses faces when they get nominated for 'Worst film'.

Open sauce - like OsCommerce, right?
That's right Thunderpants, except it's 'source' as in 'source code' (the programming code behind a software application) .... unless you knew that already and just wrote 'sauce' to be funny, in which case, that's pretty funny \:\)

There are actually HEAPS of Open Source software projects like OsCommerce for people starting their own business, which is a really good idea since it's all free. The reason for their success is that they get so much input from people who actually use the stuff saying things like "It would be good if it did this ... " etc.

  9. I use SpamBayes which is an Open Source application (i.e. written by and improved upon by hundereds of developers around the world who hate getting spam). Once installed, it 'plugs in' to Outlook (i think some other mail clients as well), and 'learns' how to distinguish what is spam and what is not by looking at what you detect as Spam. In fact, I've only had to teach it with one or two emails out of about 250 spams, so it's pretty clever.

I've noticed a lot of posts in the OffTopic area about applications for peoples computers. Seriously, you should all consider sourceforge.net as the first place to go, since all the software you can get there is Open Source and therefore free of advertising spyware, and well backed up in terms of updates. A lot of the stuff there is specifically for Linux platforms, but the amount of Windows stuff is increasing.
