The parks have been set up as protected sanctuaries from the vagaries of modern living, and users should slip in and out unnoticed.
Are you sure that's the setup in Japan miteyak ? It's certainly not the case around here. Massive electrical towers blight the view, as does logging roads (which I believe crosses the national parks land).

Actually, it is against the law to ride a snowmobile or motorbike ON the national park land. However, being as one rides a snowmobile on the snow and NOT on the land, there is not a lot that the authorities can do about it.........

"They're both a reminder that you're involved in heavily oil-dependent sports and are polluting what you go to enjoy. "

Ocean, you ever drive a car to the skifields ? How about catch a plane to go to, say, Hokkaido to go riding ?
  2. sorry to hear about your story TP - glad to hear you are coping with it. I've had quite few friends go to jail here, and none of them have kind words to say about the place.

To those you think the hemp control laws are heavy here, have a look at the law regarding pot in the good ol' US of A.....there are some REALLY crazy laws. I'm reading a book at the moment, 'reefer madness' by eric schlosser (he also wrote fast food nation), he goes through a few cases that deal with people being given life terms for introducing a buyer to a seller, first offenders being given 8 yrs, another guy given 12 yrs just for helping unload a boatful of hash (which was proven NOT to be his), he also talks about the amount of property and assets seized by the DEA (which in some cases gets sold to DEA agents friends for next to nothing) and how these same assets are being used to prop up departmental budgets. The book then tells about a bunch of congressmen's children, governer's children, and others from 'high' places who were busted and had their charges droped from, in some cases, dealing coke and pot ,to misdemeaners (???). These people's children get off with community service, small fines ($100), and suspended sentences.......now THAT is harse......

Still, TB, I have to agree with the others, getting stuff sent to your own address is dumb. Could you not find any good hash here - there is litterally tons of the sh*t ? ? ? ? Good luck with giving it up..........

  3. Nice one Ocean, good luck with getting 'local', it's a good idea.

But, with ideas like this, also comes exceptions, and in my book, wine would be the perfect example lol.gif Sure, a lot of the imported wine can also taste like acrid old underpants, but, at least some of the imported wine is fantastic.

I understand where you are coming from though. I might even adopt your policies when I return home, particulaly considering the Hunter Valley (Aust) could offically be called 'local' for me then.... \:\)

    P.S. What's umeshu ? ? ? ?

I ate my first loaf of homemade/self made bread tonight. It was good too.......

  4. my best excuse used to be I was hungover from drinking too much, and not enough sleep. At which point I would ask if I could go home - sometimes yes, sometimes no. If no, I would go find a spare bed, blanket, and sleep till lunch time.

Good job, why did I leave again... wakaranai.gif

  5. have you guys heard the story about those 3 people in car though. This story is amazing, and not for the good reasons.....

Apparently (and this is second hand because I don't understand Japanese well enough, but a very good japanese friend translated for me.....), apparently someone realised there was a car caught in a landslide last Sunday or Monday. The next day, the authorities decided to bring in sniffer dogs. Low and behold the dogs could smell people inside (how else would the car have gotten there, auto pilot ? ? ? ? ?). It was decided to hold off on trying to dig them out for some reason.

It was the next day (yesterday) that they started digging.........is it just me, but those people should been rescued earlier. In some countries, the rescue workers would now face manslaughter charges for waiting so long. Also, why were they digging by hand when there is such a vast amount of mechanical diggers in this country ? ? ? ? ?

It is a miracle that the boy survived, but, I think the real miracle is actually that the rescue guys made it in time.

  6. Australia must be similar to the UK. everybody I went to school with was drinking by about 14 or 15 or so, I started a just before this. I started drinking because I was going the 'blue light disco'......any other aussies remember these ? ? ? ? Now I will drink at least 3-4 beers everyday, and usually a few vodka's as well - I kind of like my vodka strong, so the bottle doesn't really last that long \:\( . I also have a few bottles of wine a week (a few more if I go out for dinner).

Ocean, have you tried the French organic wine that's about (at least it's about in Tokyo) ? A friend of mine is the importer of this stuff, he is always at another friends pad so we have had the opportunity to sample quite a lot - last time he was at my friends place he left about 60 cases of wine........ clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif

  7. Karnidge, me too, I like corn flakes, and sometime put a banan on there as well. I also like these new flakey things from weetabix - 'advantage'. With a name like that, you can't go wrong......

Also, every morning, toast and vegemite.... ;\)

  8. yeah, the timelords (klf) are cool, I like that dr who track too. I used to dj in a strip club in roppongi, and used to give that track a bit of 'titty time air play' - it would always bring a comment from someone.

Been listening to the new x-dream album. Anyone else into this sort of stuff ? These guys are pioneers in the trance scene, their sound has changed a lot over the years, but they always mange to stay just in front of what other people are doing, even their old tracks still sound new. Got an extra cd as well (other new tracks that didn't make the album), with a track with some great samples from american evangalists (??) - kinda funny, I think it's called 'praise the lord', looking forward to hearing that one on the dancefloor....
