  1. I just had a very pleasant experience with Apple. I have had some shoddy responses from them in the past, but on this occassion they were good.

Ordered some photo books through Aperture for friends. Not delivered after 3 weeks (standard delivery time is 2 weeks). Contacted Apple and they reordered them right away and sent them out super quick. Turns out the delay was due to the postal service, as we ended up getting double copies of the books. But wow, really impressed with how well they responded.

Was contemplating changing printers to save a bit of money, but think I will stick with Apple for now.

  2. Finger's crossed it heals quickly. I mentioned in a post above that my wife broke her toe a month out from out snow trip. Lot's of RICE (Rest Ice Compression Elevate) and it seems to heal pretty quickly. She had no probs in the snow, so maybe if ou look after if you could be back on the hill in 3 weeks. Better to be safe than sorry, especially if it could hinder your work.

I hate having to ride injured and not be able to do it 100%. It's good to still be out there, but very frustrating not being able to ride the way you want Of course, that's still less frustrating than not being on the snow at all...

  3. She rose to prominence about 10-12 years ago in Australia. She's a fish and chip shop owner who launched her own political party, "One Nation". You could safely regard it is as a right-wing party. It's core agenda was on restricting immigration and other racially based policies. They also had a couple of hilariously ill-thought out financial policies (one of them involved simply printing more money).

She was mocked, ridiculed and lampooned by mainstream Australian media. Mostly because she was viewed as racist. However, she managed to drum up a surprising amount of support accross Australia, so she obviously appealed to many people.

I don't have any time for her or her policies, but sje deserves some credit at least for speaking her mind and sticking to her principles. It would be nice if other politicians voiced some actual opinions, rather than running the safe party line all the time.

And, for a working class woman completely outside the political spectrum, you can't deny that she did have an astonishing amount of success within the political arena. On name recognition alone, I would say a far higher proportion of Australians would know of her, yet very few (including myself) could name significant Prime Ministers from the past. I couldn't even name half of the current Cabinet.

  4. Damn, you destroyed your collarbone. How come the scars - did they cut you open to put plates and screws in?

And BM, sounds like a heavy stack.

I've been really lucky. Had a few big crashes and knocked my head around hard, but nothing too bad. One in Niseko in April a few years ago, I lost all my short term memory too. Didn't really know who I was for a while. The weird thing was I was apparently talking all this crazy nonsense. All I could rememember was that all these subconsious sort of dream thoughts were coming to me in my waking life. Weird. Maybe it was a mild concussion or something.

A helmet is on the list for next season.

  5. That sucks. Get better soon. I for one would like to see your x-rays.

I am a total wuss, and I really only like riding natural terrain. I look at dudes in the park and wish I could do it, but I don't want to get hurt and miss out on the powder days.

About a month before our trip to Japan, my wife broke her toe running on the beach. That was a stress not knowing if she would be ok for the trip, but luckily it was fine and didn't give her any serious problems.

    Let's recovering!

  6. i went to the dvd store and the crazy kook working there pressed a film into my hands. don't ask, he said, just watch it. and he was right.

a french thriller called "tell no one" if you can rent it or download it you won't regret it.

it is good. and not a pretentious art house foreign film either. just a great movie, albeit one where you have to read subtitles

  7. i was reading somewhere that just before and during the olympics, companies can't promote athletes that will be in the olympics. this is to 'protect' the expensive olympic sponsorship deals. apparently, there's no ads with the big name riders etc in magazines. not sure how true that is though.

in the snowboard half pipe, it seemed that through the heats and semis no riders were rocking the sponsor stickers, except on helmets and goggles, but in the final they were all holding up the base of the boards, and a bunch of guys even had stickers and graphics on the decks. i couldn't care less either way, just wondering what the deal is

Yep it was rad. I don't really ever watch pipe, but was in awe of it.
one - the dudes were all super competitive but seemed to be relatively relaxed about it.
Oyuki, you seem pretty into pipe/competitive riding, so correct me if I'm wrong about any of the following:
Holy moly, how big did Shaun White go? I didn't know how much hype there was, but he went huge! Super stylish, smooth and bigger than everyone else.
It was a bummer the Japanese riders blew their second runs, but I didn't think they were nuts enough to place anyway. It seems like inverted tricks, especially those double corks things, are now the norm. Watching dudes do them back to back, and one of them switch was mental.
I thought the Finnish dude who came second was oveerscored - the Swiss guy (Ipod...?) went huge in his first run and I thought that deserved a place, but then I'm just a punter watching it on TV. I'm sure the judges got it right.
And finally, how come the Japanese guys didn't have the same uniforms? And some guys were riding blank boards while others were rocking sponsor stickers. I thought the IOC had a blackout ban on sponsors?
