  1. Been a bunch of places....

Austria, Switzerland, France, Lake Placid-US, NZ and round "home sweet home"- Lake Louise/Banff Canada

It's hard to pick a fav, as I tend to rank them not only on snow/ski quality but on atmosphere...

That being the case I think my fondest memories come from switzerland...both for quantity of snow and atmosphere/beauty.

I think Banff offers pretty wicked apres ski...and of course amazing riding...with several resorts to choose from within a 1hr radius.

Would love to hear about the Scottish hills...?

That's because us canadians can pick out the dodgy ones from a mile away. \:D ;\)

Don't even get me started on Canadian immigration. My best friend(canadian) and husband(kiwi) of nearly 10yrs returned to canada after living in NZ for several years. He had applied for canadian residency just after they were married in canada(and were living there at the time). He was turned down. So they went to NZ.
Upon thier recent return to canada he has applied for residency again. It turns out that he is already a permanent resident - or so Canadian Immigration has told him. But in actual fact he is not and nobody seems to know what the true story is. So after nearly 3 months of waiting for immigration to sort it, they have gone to thier MP for help. What a load of bollocks.

For the record....NZ immigration is equally crap.
But then aren't most gov depts?
Ah...what were we talking about again....?
  3. O11 - Yes...i actually started it...read half and then put it aside for a few weeks....have just taken it up again. It was hitting alittle bit too close to home ...disconcerting.

Luckily i am a bit of a procrastinator so i am not about to give up my job and go to work for greenpeace or start a guppy farm just yet. ;\)

  4. Been away for awhile and look what happens!

whoever grouped BC and Alberta in with a bunch of US snow destinations....please don't mislead the masses. Being that I'm from alberta(and alot of people think that canada is just another state - pedictably many are americans) I'd hate to be labeled as "american" and targeted with totally unfounded, completely at random anti-american antagonistic posts. \:D ;\)

oh bugger....i didnt know you had to be able to surf too to post on this site..... clap.gif

  6. ok...sorry guys...let me decipher my cryptic message....

Black Seeds were the main event. They are one of the many xcellent NZ bands out now.

"With two Gold-selling albums in New Zealand and several years of successful touring, Wellington-based band The Black Seeds have received nationwide recognition as one of the country's best acts.

A 8-piece live band, The Black Seeds produce a unique blend of funk, reggae, soul and dub that has set dancefloors alight throughout Aotearoa and sees them regularly sell out shows and tours." - courtesy of:

The opening band was the one that I couldn't quite figure out - and were so memorable that I've forgotten their name. There was about 12 people in it, alot of brass and sort of a jazzy sound.

So are they a band or??

  7. Elloo all,

So when does a band become more than a band?

I went and saw the Black Seeds on Friday night. They were great but the group(??) that opened for them were what you could refer to as musical floorplay. All very nice with a promise of something more to come, but no climax.

Needless to say i was nearly asleep when they finished and durning the performance had far too much time to ponder....

They also made me think of cross country skiing. \:D

So does anybody know when a band stops being a band and becomes an orchestra? or is there something in between the two?

  8. I lol.gif would hate to be hit in the eye with a stray bit of mushroom...!

Actually, this has happened to me...and leads onto an awkward situation....

It is very difficult to maintain a straight face when someone has launched a meal projectile onto you....then you struggle with the thought...do i ignore it and pretend i didnt notice (to save embarrassing them) or do you excuse yourself and hike it to the bathroom to wash up?

Open mouthed chewing is gross. But at the same time there are different levels of it. I have been out with people who don't seem to notice the constant stream of crumbs tumbling out of their mouth as they chew....yuck. Then there are those who on occasion open their mouth...far more discretely.

    Turoa on the 7th June.

Turoa opens 18th and Whakapapa opens on the 25th of June. They are predicting a massive season. Heaps of snow already on the mountain...whooo hoo!
Apparently we need a few more good snowfalls before the upper mountain will open....but it is all on schedule for opening day. clap.gif clap.gif
  10. I think alot of people when out can be a bit over-polite when they eat. I dont ness think it is a bad thing....i just thought it was refreshing to see a couple of guys really enjoying their meal...and not being distracted by making sure they had their napkin positioned appropriately.

The way they ate seemed to be an extention of thier own persona....carefree, passionate, and animated.

    Or...am i way off base.... wakaranai.gif

  11. HAAAAAhhhhaaaaa!(ok bit tactless)

sorry db, must rub in the fact that tonight i've consumed ridiculous amounts of the beautiful Mac's Blonde - with corriander and orange. It is the most beautiful and original tasting beer on the market.(in my very limited opinion)

    view 4 yerself: http://www.macs.co.nz/beers.asp

I guess you and other beer lovers will have to come visit NZ for winter snow/ski/board/n'beer!!

    Yup thats an invite!

  12. Just recently i was out with a group of friends and there were a few lads with us who are scottish.

The occasion was fairly formalish - well as formal as they get here in nz.

As we were eating dinner i noticed that the scots lads style of eating was completely different to everyone else at the table. They just seemed to tuck-in with far less regard for "niceties". They weren't really messy, just focused on having a good time and enjoying dinner.

As they licked their fingers and chomped away I was surprised to find that i actually found this quite refreshing and it reminded me of time i spent in the Philippines and the way Filipinos eat. They just seemed to enjoy their dinner....

To coincide with this, i had to notice that the pair of them really seemed to have far more zest for life than the others in our party, as they entertained our group and went nuts on the dance floor.

I could not help but relate their flare for a good time and their unhindered table habits were some how linked. Perhaps just more sensual and passionate than others??

  13. when i was growing up, i was horse crazy. Never owned one but always dreamt of it. Now that i live on the other side of the world from my family ....they own two....One palameno(sp?) and one Arabian (my fave - spirited and damned gorgeous creatures).

This might sound weird to some but for those horsie people out there ....do you think you can have an "connection" with a horse? Please no links through to "down on the farm". ;\)
