I just did a two day trip to Teine and overnighted in Sapporo. I had a car so my board was always in the car. I've seen boardracks at hotels in Asahikawa but didn't see any in Sapporo. Maybe give the hotel you are thinking of staying at an email explaining what you want to do and see what they come up with? The staff where we stayed were super helpful and didn't seem to be run off their feet, I'm sure they would have come up with something.

In mid January I stayed at the Chisun Grand hotel in Sapporo, it was 7.5k for a triple room with a massive by any countries standard bathroom that had a spa bath!
Cant recommend it highly enough. We didn't have any reservations, we just rocked up.

I think Rhythm have Lib Tech also Pete.
Might be worth giving them a call.

Niseko burton dealers-
Boom (kutchan)
Fusion (hirafu)
Rhythm (hirafu)
Rhythm has the biggest range I reckon.

You either love it or hate it!

Furano doesn't get as much snow as Niseko but the locals say that it's drier, being further inland, etc, etc. At the moment though, more of anything would be good!
Nice review Ippy and welcome to Furano
That's true.
If you study the JMA's precipitation radar when it snows and correlate that with the ski resorts locations on google maps you can see a pretty predictable pattern develop. In my experience Hokkaido's major resorts snowfalls go like this-
Niseko area, Kiroro and Sapporo Kokusai get very similar amounts and top the charts for snowfall.
Rusutsu is a little behind.
Teine doesn't get nearly as much as Rusutsu and can take much of the season to get really good.
Then would probably be Furano followed by Tomamu.
I guess Furano would probably be lucky to get 7m a year and Tomamu less than that again. -

A word of warning to those in Furano or on their way here - ski patrol were out in force today! I had my first run-in of the season with a particularly aggressive guy I had the misfortune to meet on the way into a tree run. When he threatened to take my season pass, international relations became somewhat strained! I was let off with a "next time" warning but not before he'd taken a note of my name. I than ran into a couple who'd had a similar experience with another guy, who said he'd already taken the passes of a group of 7 or 8 skiers who'd hiked a ridge to access an out-of-bounds face. Back at the gondola I then heard of yet another couple that had been warned off this morning. So I guess the message is be extra vigilant when you duck those ropes!
I first went there in 2005 and that was the experience I got, ski patrol nazis everywhere, I vowed never to come back!
Last year I got persuaded by a mate who had done two seasons there to return and had a blast, never had a problem.
I'm sorry to hear they are back hassling people again and Furano is off the list again unfortunately! -
Jim,
Has anyone claimed there was a 5m base?

Do you think that 5m of snowfall = 5m of base? -
I doubt they would really be able to keep that patch to themselves anyway....it is Strawberry Fields after all!
I reckon shortly after I came through a hooting and hollering pack of pow pigs would have ended the shoot quick smart.
Idiots thinking they can film in Strawberries and have it all to themselves.
-

I don't know who it was but I think they had Swedish or norwegian accents.
Damn vikings pillaging my pow!

I was doing laps today through Strawberry fields at Hanazono , I traversed right along the ridge to my usual stomping ground and came across a group of guys right at the entrance to a lush field of untracked pow when on yells at me "stop, stop you have to go back we are filming a movie here", I tell him that this is everyones snow but they wouldn't let up, they actually wanted me to double back on my own track because "we are saving this powder for the movie!"
I was a little peeved and but dropped in and hooked skiers left and left them to themselves. What do you think? Within the resort is fair game in my mind, we are all riding on the same ticket or do you reckon once you pull a camera out you can claim an area to yourself????
If that's the case I am going out to get one now!

Has anyone heard anything about whether Mizuno no sawa will be opening again this year?

I'll be there on Wednesday, can't wait to check it out! -

What? the korean won is worth nothing in japan (and its probably worth much less after today!) My extraordinary wages are turned to monopoly money the second i land at new chitose! DONT JUDGE ME!!!
So er...
I remember last year the two places rumoured to have the cheapest accommodation was mellow and ramble. Ive sent mellow an email, but cant find ramble's email address. Anyone got it?
Also, this came from one poor girl at some place like downtown lodge in hirafu with a broken ankle. She might not have known for sure. So remember the code you bums and drifters out there and help another bum out Any other likely places for the proud underclass of niseko?
Check out Aspara lodge, found it the other day when looking for cheap accommodation. Its a little out of Hirafu but it is in your price range.
I don't know anything about it except for the price so this isn't a recommendation bud! -
Yamabushi,
I heard a rumour that at Hakkoda the resort has guides that form groups and you can ride with them (for a fee).
Apparently you meet in the car park first thing in the morning?
Do you know anything about this?

I'm thinking of doing the same thing! -
Yamabushi,
Have you heard any news of a new high speed ferry running between Hakodate and Aomori due to go into operation in September?
I found some info on blogs but nothing official.

I'm getting so stoked reading this shit!

The tough on drugs policy has been in place for ever and drug use seems to be at an all time high.
When does the time come where you realise that what you have been doing doesn't work and take a new path?

Can anyone verify any of this
A similar sounding incident happened when my wife went through Mizuno no sawa with the patrol. No punches were thrown but a bit of pushing and shoving when the guy wouldn't give up his pass. Both the poachers got away though. I cant remember nationalities but I will ask her. That was back in mid January though so could be a separate incident. -
