  1. Problem with "70 mill" is that it would come in installments and not in a huge chunk of dough. Unless United could pull that off, but I suspect Real Madrid do not have the cash to be able to do that.

Problem with ?? mill + players is... do we want those players?

As a wise man on the United forums said (don't agree with the "THE best" comment but.....):

"Ronaldo is the best footballer I have seen live in a United shirt.

I hope I never see him in one again."

You've not heard about Michael Carrick then!

Joke? Actually he has had a decent season. Sometimes average sometimes really good. I expect a lot of him next season.

    Quote:
    Ronaldo's.....If he keeps developing

Right - if he keeps developing. If he stays at United and has another few seasons he probably will and will be easily in that Legend bracket!

Some people talk as if minus Ronaldo = minus 42 goals.

It doesn't. The team of last season very much gave prominence to Ronaldo and his wizardry. A team without him would adapt and - with the current lineup - I would see Rooney and Tevez getting considerably higher tallies.

Anyway, I reckon CR7 will still be around actually.
  3. Great game to watch, Holland are looking red hot (or is that bright orange?)

My mate over on a United forum posted this about CR and Legend status and I agree:

    Quote:
    C. Ronaldo is NOT a United legend. Yes he is a fantastically talented player who just had one of the best seasons I've seen in a United shirt. And yes we have just won the league again, and the CL, and he is "BPITW" (best player in the world).

But he despite all these achievements he hasn't become part of the fabric of United. Now this isn't about how long you play here or what you win, it's about whether or not you add something to the soul of the club, not just the trophy cabinet.

In terms of legendary status Cantona and Ronaldo aren't even in the same league. It's enough to bring a tear to your eye listening to Eric say that till the day he dies United will be in his heart and see the glint in his eye when talks about our club.

And I hate to say it but Beckham and (potentially, let's wait and see) Ronaldo epitomise many of the reasons that Cantona retired when he did, and lost his love for the game.

I don't want him to get a United tattoo on his arm or say that he'll never leave, I just want him to show some respect to the club and the fans. If he goes, I don't really care. If he stays I'll be chuffed. Life goes on and I support United not Ronaldo.

  4. Quote:
Nobody has come close since Cantona"
    -- what about giggs?

    Absolutely.

    Also, Ole:

The Manchester United number 20 shirt will now always be associated with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after 11 fantastic years, with six league championships, two FA Cups' and that legendary Champions League. He was a truly great servant to the club and a model professional. Incredibly loyal to his manager and club when other players would have sought a money spinning transfer, he was also prepared speak up for the fans. Solskjaer was the sort of player that is rare indeed in the modern game.

And who would deny Paul Scholes the Legend status.

Of course Giggy and Scoles are still going so not yet officially there yet.

Fergie tapped up half his team

    FALSE!
And even at a stretch, certainly nothing like what Real Madrid have been doing.

Legend status is way much more than just tons of goals goals. Even being The Best Player In The World does not make you a United legend.

    Giggsy is a legend.
    Cantona is a legend.
    Sir Bobby is a legend.

Ronaldo? He certainly could be if he continued and actually showed some United soul rather than disrespect etc, but now... nope, not yet.
The way this distasteful saga is continuing, he is more likely to be remembered as a high scoring arrogant egotistical (insert Smash robot C-word) than a United legend.

Then again, it may not be as distasteful as it all sounds ---- we need to find our what is really happening before voting!
  6. The club have done right with coming out that they've come out and said he's going nowhere. That's the end of the speculation really, he's under contract, his value will deminish little having 3 years left on a contract rather than 4, for his own sake he should just come out and categorically end the speculation he's helped stoke.

It's all getting tired now and it seems Fergie is starting to get pissed.

I don't want to see us lose any of our best players. But if he goes, he goes, new players come in and represent Manchester United. I just prefer that while they are at the club, they act with a tad more class.

But it seems that some randomly made up transfer bollocks gets more publicity these days that a genuinely well written piece about football.

  7. ""Did you see when Drogba got the red, Terry went up to Tevez and said something into his shirt so that the camera couldn't pick up what he said. Sure looked like that on the replay.""

Sure did. Don't know if it was just him saying something he didn't want the rest of the world to see, or whether the rumours of him spitting on Tevez is true. Whichever, I also do not like Terry and was very happy to see him totally deflated. Don't worry about him lads, he's earning more than your annual salary this week.
