  1. it was very spring-like on the weekend @ thredbo. "ski between the flags" is the phrase we use - it was so warm, it was like a day at the beach.

the snow was softened nicely by the sun, & we scored plenty of "ice-cream" freshies in the golf course bowl.

pretty unusual for late august though - it felt more like late september. still, i had plenty of fun in the sun with good mates, & i practiced my spins & fakie riding. it was a reminder that it doesnt have to be a powder day to have fun on a snowboard. pics to follow.

  2. went on my 2nd trip weekend before last. was ok, but wasnt great... we were 3 days after that big dump. scored 1 nice freshie run in a secret spot outside the bounary, but it was such a warm day that it all went crusty or mushy in the afternoon... oh well, still had fun - better than not snowboarding at all \:\)

going again this weekend, but no chance of freshies - a huge high is moving in for the week \:\( - good for snowmaking though.

pics from last weekend (13-14th of august). sorry, no action pics...

good spot, but the sun wrecked it \:\( IMG_2577_lo.jpg

  3. which one NPM?

a system with a lot of potential just have us buckets of rain followed by 15cm of snow... bit of a shame really... there's some snow-showers expected from sunday-thursday, then more the following weekend, so that shoud help, but we could really do with a big dump.. im going to the hills for the next 3 weekends, so hopefully the long-range forecasts will come good - we are into peak season now, so i really hope so!

  4. department store? hehe, what r u on about fatty - you think i want to partake in the japanese national passtime? :p

actually im deliberatly not spending any time in tokyo on this next trip, so my wife & mother-in-law cant go shopping!

(i never thought i'd be taking the MIL on a snowboarding holiday... but she'll be babysitting my daughter - when she's not shreddin' in the terrain park... \:D )

yeah its a lovely part of the world to live in i must say - i dig it heaps \:\)

Big Will, i did recover quickly enough (thanks to 3 days lying down with ice on my back!) to hit the slopes last weekend, & it was probably better timing too! very cold, snow showers for 4 days then a good 10-15cm overnight on Saturday! Sunday was amongst my best ever days at Thredbo - uncrowded & freshies all day! \:D I took this nice photo on the way up my first lift, & sent it to Thredbo Media - who asked me to write 100 words on my say & gave me a free lift ticket!! clap.gif cool.gif so here's the pic & the text - enjoy!

    Alister's view from the chair
    Sunday is funday

Thredbo Rider Alister Ferguson shares his Sunday 17 July at Thredbo with us: It was certainly a day to remember.

    Alister writes:
"Waking up at 6.30am with that delicious powder day feeling of anticipation, I leapt out of bed & peered out the window. Wiping off the sparkling condensation revealed every powder addict's dream come true - blue sky & fresh snow on the ground - WOOHOO!

2 hours later, I was launching off the cat-track below Eagles Nest. Whirls of light powder in my wake, I shouted "YEEE HAAA!" at the top of my voice, as I revelled in the smooth 10cm of fluff that coated the Supertrail. Finally, I was carving my own tracks down the middle of the run, & with only 3 other tracks to be seen! Top-to-bottom freshies in the middle of the Supertrail – a personal first, but an experience I intend to re-live as much as possible!"

Thanks Al, see you in Thredbo!
  6. hi all,

i've started doing some research into accom in hakuba for feb 2006.

my group will include my wife, baby (will be 1 y.o.) & mother-in-law, as well as 2-3 couples... we are quite keen on finding some decent self-contained apartments, with 2 bedrooms in each, & fairly central in hakuba (ie. walking distance to shops & restaurants, good access to shuttle buses & resorts). so far, i havent seen much other than some very small cabins & a lot of hotels... & the epoch cabins look nice but far too expensive & only 1 bedroom... surely there are some affordable (around 6-7000 yen pp) apartments somewhere in hakuba? or does anyone know of a private property, even a whole house, that we could rent for a week? cheers \:\)

  7. 65cm at Thredbo overnight on friday! biggest overnight dump in Oz since 1987 apparently! then another 20cm on saturday! the other resorts did well too.

but, im very sorry to say i missed it.. \:o on wednesday, I stacked my bike & hit a wall, while avoiding an IDIOT in a huge 4wd who didnt bother indicating!! What terrible timing!! Oh well... at least I'm only bruised & nothings broken, so hopefully I'll be recovered soon & able to go this weekend, as more snow is on the way! clap.gif

theres not many good pics around... i guess everyone was too busy enjoying it... here's one anyhow

  8. its pretty average so far... the average base went up to a metre 2 weeks ago, with snow falling to 800m, & it was actually looking quite good, then it warmed up & did quite a lot of raining over the weekend just gone (although it snowed up high), so the average base is back to 80cm, & the lower slopes (1300-1600m) of thredbo are bare (while the other resorts are in slightly better shape, with bases above 1600m)

there's a system coming later this week, which will hopefully be cold enough to get some decent snow from, & then with a bit of luck we'll be into the winter cycle.

the snow at higher elivations looked quite good in these roving cams though! i might venture up this weekend if this incoming system improves..
