  1. Hi mate, as another Perthite I understand your pain, I have been through so many boots and dollars trying to get the right fit. If you can find the right boots for you in Perth (Mainpeak Osborne Park) then buy them or layby. Don't buy a pair of boots without trying them on and wearing them for at least 10 -15 minutes and longer if you can. If you decide to buy a pair over the net of the same model you tried on in Perth, make sure they are the same year/model. I have 2 pairs of Burton Drivers from two different years that fit differently.

Boards are important but if you are cold wet and miserable you wont be out there long enough to enjoy it. Here are some more thoughts. Don't let it get overwhelming and you don't have to spend a million dollars, but spend the time and do some research.

    • Get good gloves. Mits if your fingers get cold.
    • Make sure your goggles are reasonable (twin lense). If you get cheapy single lense types they will fog up very quickly.
    • Make sure your outer gear has reasonable water resistance
    • Think of your Inner layers, cheap polys are fine. No cotton t shirts. No cotton socks.
    • Take a neck warmer

Your board will generally not stop you going out onto the mountain. Some of this other gear may.

  2. There are a few hire stores in Hirafu now that you can hire a powder board from. From memory you could hire a Burton fish, malalo, 4807. As ippy said you could also try a gentenstick for something local, there a quite a few models depending on your size and weight. I really like them but everyone is different. Sometimes there has been a small hire shop up on the mountain under one of the cafe's that rents gentems. Or your could just straight to the Gentemstick showroom/workshop/shop right next to the Gentem Cafe, about 15 minutes walk? from the village towards St Moritz.

Why be rude? I just don't get some of you guys on these sites. If you don't agree that is fine. Place up and alternative to discuss. It's a shame forums can breed cowards, knocking people and hiding a thousand miles away...gutless.

gutless for just pointing out your "imparticular" should be "in particluar"? If you find that offensive, don't watch television. Put me on ignore you whimp.

If that was your only intention, then I have misunderstood and my response was over the top. So for that...I apologise...sorry.

I do find it rude however, to correct people’s gramma in a social situation even if you are correct. Mocking people is just not cool.

If you are cool with that I am happy to move on to better coversations.
  4. To no one imparticular...

    1. Fact....The Earth is currently going through a period of global warming.

    2. a large fraction of news/media is privately owned. Their role is to make money, whether or not that is through informing the public impartially on current events is to a large degree irrelevant to the business model.

    3. The debate is whether or not it is caused by human activity, most people who disagree do so because they can't be bothered having the discussion. It seems to be cool at the moment to disbelieve in climate change at the moment, yet when you try to engage these people in intelligent conversation you get anything but.

Show me the evidence is not a valid argument. It is out there (not just the 6 o'clock news) so go read it and formulate your own opinion.

    G's out...drops mike, walks off.........

  5. I love Niseko and have been coming back for many years and hopefully will for many to come. I have met some great people, been exposed to a wonderful local culture, seen the place change over the last ten years and had the best snowboarding experiences of my life. Both my wife and son have learnt to board at Niseko.

It appears to difficult however to discuss certain topics. Below are some of my observations from my experience going to Niseko only.

    - It can tribal/clicky.

-It is not always great snow despite the hype in publications. Nisko has some shite days/weeks...so what

-Niseko has a good Apre scene, but Japan is different and can't effectively be compare to the Apre scene in Europe and North America.

    - People will walk around saying how there was a foot of fresh up there all day when you know for a fact it is slim pickings.

I sometimes feel like because it is Niseko, people have to rave about all the powder they saw today etc etc. You can have great days on the mountain without fresh snow. You should be able to say I had a great day and the snow was average in the same sentence. Without some d!ckhead eaves dropping coming over saying how sick sick the narley pow pow was bro and you just don't know where to go.

This is not intended to be a negative post but just some observations.

Coming back in January for another month and I can't wait.

You've confused investors with institutional instruments rated by bent agencies.

It's OK. I am confused myself! lol smile
