You know, the "uh, gaijin" stare. What's your way of coping? Just ignoring, sly comments or what?

I only ever got into trouble once, and the situation had nothing to do with me. We were in a pub and a brawl started nearby. We were trying to get out of the place but I got a fist in my face, then someone else came in with a foot. I did the best to defend myself but the over-riding thought was to get out of the place. Which I did. Some bruises and bad feeling, but better than the bloke I know who got his arm broken out of the deal.
