I can't provide much advice on the plan as from that list I have only been to Mt Dobson (and that was last week) I live closer to the southern lakes areas so I usually end up there.
Dobson has lots of snow, but the terrain is fairly limited and its not all that big. We went there because they had lots of snow and they were closed on the monday meaning it was still fresh for the tuesday when we went. It was a great day, but without the fresh snow it would not have offered all that much. I guess you were only planning one day there so it would prob be alright.

I'll see about posting the little movie we made from footage from Mt Dobson.
  2. I lock the door when I am out - because I fear that my house will be burgaled while I am out. I wear a seatbelt because I fear I may crash, I generally dont speed for fear I may get a ticket, I look before I cross the road for fear I may be hit by a car.

Despite the world of fear I live in I feel fairly well adjusted.

Locking the door to stop the burglars is probably the least effective action on the list though. I'm sure burglars dont go door to door seeing which ones are locked and burgiling the unlocked ones. I think most burglars assume they will have to do a little breaking before they do their entering.

I do lock my door sometimes when I am home though, the family tend to knock and come in and I'm not always ready for visitors. (yes, I also fear being caught shagging on the couch)

In japan though we only really locked the door when we went away on holiday.

  3. Christ thats a bit harsh. I don't think anyone can claim they have never lost control, caught an edge, hit an enexpected bit of ice etc..

Gives me the willies hearing about death or serious injury because it could so easily be me or someone I know. I usually hope that the story about what happened includes them doing something stupid so that I can put it in the "it wont happen to me" catogory. The reality is though that it would not take that much bad luck for it to be me. (or you.)

Still, going skiing and taking a little risk beats sitting safely in a chair waiting for cancer or something else to get you.

  4. Being that the boot model is the "jah love" I'm gonna have to agree with minty though medussa would have been good too.

The boots fit well (phew!) I just have to wait for a week and a day to use them (unless I can get up to wanaka for work and go for a little ski afterwards before then)

Only my 4th pair of boots ever, lucky they last a long time cos they feel like they cost a fortune. If I had got them in NZ they would be almost twice what I paid for my season pass.

  5. You see Hajime mashite in all the books but you dont hear anyone actually say it. All the people I met say Yoroshiku (for short) or yoroshuku onegai shimasu (in full).

It's something you say when you meet someone for the first time. Similar to nice to meet you in use, but not really similar in meaning.

genki desu ka? can be directly substituted to how are you? and can be used in the same situations.

  6. I was just trying to figure out how much damage the rain done when I cam across this discription of current conditions

"Very good skiing and riding on firm spring snow with a frost dried surface. Main trails have been groomed overnight providing a grippy corduroy surface. Tracked and packed firm spring snow with a frost dried surface in off piste areas."

Not quite sure what to imagine the snow might be like after reading that, it's "very good" though.

  7. The stronger it is, the less you smoke, the less you smoke the lower the chance you are damaging your lungs. Does that not lead to the conclusion that pot is less damaging to lungs now than ever before.

Getting too baked isn't that pleasent, people will smoke enough to their desired level of highness rather than smoke a fixed amount of pot. The "pot now is soo different to the stuff in the 60's" arguement us just used to try to convince the baby boomers that have tried pot and know it is not that bad that is is bad now.

  8. Some years the snow can be a bit late and the off piste can be full of sasa (I think thats what its called)green stalks with leaves on top. You can ski through them when they are not too thick but its better when they are buried.

If you can leave it a week or 2 then it is almost garanteed to be covered by then.

Ski areas will be quieter later on Jan, and cheaper.

I would go later if I were you.
