  1. Only just noticed this. Which data are you referring to? If you are referring to resort snow depth data on our resort pages, it is not written by tour companies. It is provided by resorts and is entered into our system. Quote: heck even i know that people with vested interested write them We are very strict with our Now reports and put a lot of effort into making sure that they are not biased. The snow depth on those reports is the snow depth as reported by resorts. If they themselves bend a truth, there's unfortunately nothing we can do about that - apart from c

  9. A new feature has been put online. This time we had a talk with popular Forum member Toque about his experiences on the snow and more... http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/interviews-toque.html "I was born July 1979 in the beautiful town of Chilliwack, British Columbia. That’s in Canada if you didn’t know. My father introduced me to the mountains at an early age with backpacking and ski trips a regular occurrence. I skied and hiked fairly often right from the age of six. Chilliwack is about 100km east of Vancouver right up against some big mountains - to the s
  10. A new Setting Journals feature - "International Seasonal Workers - A Couple’s Perspective" - has been put online. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/setting-journals-29.html "Ever wanted to come to Japan and get some of the powder you have been hearing so much about? Done a great deal of skiing/boarding overseas and perhaps met some Japanese folk doing the same? Have a significant other that also wants to come to Japan but worried you may not be able to find work/accommodation together? If you answered yes to any of the above, you are not alone... http:/

  12. We're happy to be able to introduce a new section to Snow Japan today called "Jobs Available". In this new section companies and organizations that are offering employment opportunities in winter resort regions are introduced, and to start off we introduce four companies. We hope to be adding to this, so keep an eye on this new section. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/jobs-available/index.html Please note that this is an introductory service provided by Snow Japan that enables employers and potential employees to find each other. Snow Japan is not involved in an
  13. A new feature - "Boarding Fuji" by Glen Falting - has been put online. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/features-boarding-fuji.html "It's 4:30 a.m. and none of the staff are awake when we unlock the front door of the hotel and load our gear into the rental van. I’m a bit worried that if someone wakes, they’ll think we’re skipping out without paying. But no one stirs, which is just as well. It would be difficult for us to explain in our broken Japanese that we're just on our way to climb and then snowboard down Mount Fuji and that we'll return later. My friend Oli
  14. A new feature - "The Fukui Fellowship" by Sam Baldwin - has been put online. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/features-90.html "I grab four bottles of Yebisu beer from the fridge and give the landlord a customary nod. I’m at Bar Yumeya in Ono, Fukui, a cosy hangout for local lovers of snow. Yasu, the owner, is somewhat of a legend in these parts, having conquered several Himalayan summits in India, Pakistan, China and Nepal. An ice pick, snowshoes, and many pictures of sabre-toothed peaks decorate the walls; souvenirs from past expeditions. Like many foreigners
  15. There was little respite from the heat during daytime, but nights began to cool significantly. Occasionally a typhoon would blow over the Japanese archipelago, cooling things down at the upper elevations. A few years back in September the resort hosted a country mus

  18. Some very sad news to report. It seems that yesterday an 18 year old snowboarder hit a tree at Kandatsu (Yuzawa) and has today died. Reports are that he was コース外 (outside of the course) when it happened - he hit a tree, was unconscious yesterday but we have heard today that he has since died. We'll try to find out some more details tomorrow.
