  1. Actually we have had a few people mail us about that. It seems that the link is causing a few browsers to explode.

Anyway, boardbaka - and everyone else - we'd appreciate it if you could please refrain from just posting a new thread with just a link and no indication of what is on the other end of that link in the thread.

    Sent you a PM boardbaka.

    Thanks.

  6. You're right, very sorry about that mistake - we will be more careful about that from now on just to be sure. Thanks for pointing it out... we might let you enter twice in that next one. ;\)

All the giveaway from now on are weekly - so it's will be (mostly) Friday to Thursday, then a new one coming online on Friday, etc.

We'll be choosing winners later today and mailing them. There will be another Hakuba one coming in the near future.

  7. It surely goes without saying that

    a) this has got absolutely nothing to do with Snow Japan

    and

    B) any member details that we have including email addresses do not - under any circumstances whatsoever - get in anyone elses hands apart from our own.

It is extremely likely that our domain name has just been inserted in this junk purely at random.

We have today got about 20 of these, each one with a different domain name plugged in there.

If you were posting this for us to repond to, then sending it to us by email is better than posting on the Forums.

  8. A new feature, "Green Snow - How winter sports affect the environment", has been put online.

    http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/green-snow-factoids.html

"Global warming is an increase in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere caused by the so-called "greenhouse" effect. Most scientists believe the warming is caused by human activity, especially the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and natural gas.

Earth's average temperature rose at least 1 degree in the 20th century, according to the World Meteorological Organization. But the rise has accelerated since 1976. Last year tied with 1998 for the warmest on record, and nine of the 10 warmest years have occurred in the past decade.

It's hard to find any scientist who disagrees the Earth's temperatures are getting higher. But global warming's cause is still under debate as well as what effects it will have on different regions of the planet."

Why would they dump it there so early, unless it was to support a one-off little run along a path of ice surrounded by grass.
That's exactly what it is for, db. It will become a 900 meter run that they open in just over 2 weeks that's about 20 meters (?) wide (and surrounded by grass).

It sure isn't natural snow, it comes from those machines they have dotted along the run. The mounds are getting bigger as the days go by.
  10. If you can't PM and you have posted more than a few on the Forums, then please let us know about it by sending us an email at editor@snowjapan.com and we will make sure it is turned on for your username. If you don't let us know about a problem, there's nothing we can do about it - we are just an email away. \:\)

Unfortunately, this policy (of PMs not being available immediately) is the only way to get around the problem we were experiencing of an increasing number people/machines registering and then instantly beginning to spam other members through PMs.

  11. Welcome to Snow Japan 06/07!

This season sees by far the biggest update to the Snow Japan website ever. A few completely new sections, a completely revamped section, more daily reports, RSS feeds, mobile site. There's a lot of new stuff to play with. Site traffic for September 06 was 260% what it was in the same period last year, and with all of the new fun content we are expecting it to be an extremely busy season.

Before we go into details, we'd just like to say a sincere thank you to the people who helped us out with ideas, suggestions and testing, particularly over the last 4 or 5 months. We really do appreciate it. Many of the new content ideas initially came from comments that were submitted by readers. We do not make decisions to go ahead with new content based on commercial reasons. Instead, we develop content purely based on what we think Snow Japan readers want to see. So if you have ideas on what you would like to see on Snow Japan in future, lets us know... it might end up being what we do next year.

Anyway. Below are the main updates that have been made to Snow Japan and new content. Click on the links to go to more detailed threads in the News section.

Here's to the best snow season ever!

  12. A new feature has been put online. This time we had a talk with popular Forum member Fattwins about his skiing, what brought him to Japan and more...

    http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/interviews-fattwins.html

"I was raised in Mississauga Ontario. My dad loved hockey, so started to skate at the age of three. I think most of my ski balance, comes from being on skates at such an early age. My parents both love and play sports so it was perfect for me. I started to ski at the ripe old age of 18. My friends were all skiing. I really wanted to join them, but the problem was cost. My parents always helped me pay for sports, but their rule was simple - 'we will only pay for two sports'. I loved hockey and I loved baseball, so I couldn't start skiing until I could work enough to pay for it. I made it to the Toronto ski show in my 18th year and I picked up some K2 5800's. Within the year I was skiing the same runs as most of my friends and loving it...."

  13. A short while back, we had a bit of a problem that meant we had to shut the Forums down for a short while.

In the process of doing that, it seems that a small number of posts may have gone missing and a new member has reported a problem with their account which has since been fixed.

Things should be back to normal now, but please let us know if you encounter any strangeness and we'll look into it! (Send us a mail at editor@snowjapan.com).

Sorry for the disruption and thanks for your understanding.
