The snow season is now officially over at Kagura (and indeed all the resorts in the region). Yesterday was the last day of the season at Kagura. It hasn't been the best of seasons in terms of snowfall of course, with less than we are used to, so they did really well stretching the season until the end of May. The fact that they can do that shows that we still had a fair amount!
All of the lifts are now closed. The Dragondola (connecting Naeba with Tashiro) plans to be open for the peak 'autumn colours' season from 3rd October until 8th November.
These Naeba Now reports will resume in autumn as the build up to the 09/10 season begins. Kagura is hoping to be able to open for next season on 21st November.... obviously that will depend on snow!
Here's hoping for a bumper season in 09/10.
Thanks for reading and have a good summer. |

Still 1300m of the main course skiable at Kagura, though only a fairly thin strip of white left surrounded by the green and brown of the earth on show.... we truly are in the very last stage now and not many people going up there. That may well change tomorrow and Sunday as it is the last weekend.
Cloud and sun today with cloud and then cloud/rain on the forecast for Sunday.
We'll update this page on Monday with a season wrap up. If you are going up there for that last slide of the season - enjoy!
PLEASE NOTE:
We will continue to make updates to this Naeba Now! page a few times a week, but from now on until the end of the season at Kagura the daily reporting from the Yuzawa area of Niigata will move over to the Yuzawa Now! report section, so remember to check out that page as well for the latest. |

More cool weather over the weekend in Yuzawa but we escaped rain for the most part until later on in the day yesterday.... heavy rain late last night.
It's a cool feeling 14 degrees in Yuzawa at the moment (7 up at Kagura) and a lot of low cloud making visibility poor at the moment higher up.
Kagura is now into the last week. The 'main gelende' is still open (1300m of it) with the quad lift still moving. The resort has said that depending on the conditions that might change to a smaller part of the course serviced by the Kagura No1 romance lift. We shall see.
Fine weather on the forecast for this week.

We have had a few days of really warm, almost hot, weather. Down in Yuzawa town it has been close to 30 degrees and up on Kagura over 20. Just as it started to feel like summer was on the way, today has cooled down a fair bit though it is still warm with a temperature of 15 degrees at Kagrua now.
Cloud is on the forecast but it is a fairly bright and - at the moment - sunny morning. Strong winds early on will probably calm down later in the day.
More cloud forecast for tomorrow with a chance of rain on Sunday.
10 days left! The resort will be open until the 31st, but from Monday please note that the "Kagura Shuttle Bus" from the Echigo Yuzawa Station will not be running.

Some big news to report from Kagura this morning - Kagura is extending the season and now plans to be open until 31st May.
The resort plans for the whole of the main course (1300m) to be open until 24th May, with perhaps just the middle/bottom part (using the Kagura No1 pair lift, 600m) of that course open from the 25th until 31st.
The Giant Course and Gondola Course are now closed, leaving only the Main Gelende at Kagura open.
Quite remarkable considering the relative low snowfalls this season if you ask me!
It looks like it will be a fine day after some early cloud and strong winds and currently 9 degrees at Kagura. Fine weather is also forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Another 9 days left! These last few days have seen the temperatures drop again and it is uncharacteristically cool for the middle of May. No-one complaining here though as that will help keep as much snow as possible for the last stretch of the season.
Cloud tomorrow and a chance of rain as well on Sunday for the region.

This morning it is raining in Mitsumata and Kagura, with fog covering the upper slopes. It's actually quite cool, much more than it has been for a while - almost chilly even - but the weather is forecast to improve as the day progresses and we might see the sun later in the day. From tomorrow it looks like we should have a few days of fine weather
