Hot springs/pool-related activities are a distant third to snow and nightlife - and even a decent cheeseburger. An absolute priority is avoiding school holidays - is Feb all clear?

OK, so I've never been to ski resorts in Japan before - where's the place to find great snow (for intermediate boarders), great nightlife, in Feb 03? (hot springs would be a bonus ...) Thanks, any suggestions welcome.
