  1. Well, there's kinda 2 issues at stake here. One is the ads. The other is the spyware which is way worse. normal kazaa has extra software hiding in it when u install it, there's also a release clause buried in all the documentation. Basically your computer becomes their bug and sends info on all the websites u visit, when u visit them, all that stuff that marketing companies luv a) hitting u with more ads that might appeal to u B) onselling that info for profit c) hijacking rival sites etc. possibly the biggest invasion of privacy u can get on the internet. anyway, check out this url for more detailed info about kazaa.

ocean, if u're comfortable with that, all the more power to u but u can always get kazaa-lite instead which doesn't have the spyware. PM if u're interested in the url.

  2. i totally eat more junkfood in japan. maybe cos there's always a wall of junkfood choice whenever u walk into the 7-11.

    hey nekobi,

there's international flavours for pringles? where did u see those?

    mrsparkle,

didn't u know? if u don't eat dark chocolate nobody will ever want to marry u. get sum men's pocky into u and save yourself sum serious social stigma \:\) \:\) ;\) ...awesum...four s starting words in a row... :p

  3. a happy thread...what a good idea, props to u dumbstick, BTW, luv the name \:\) . let's just let that other thread sink to the bottom. No way anybody can post there without looking like they're sticking up for one party and bashing the other, which i'm sure is not the case. anyway...

kuaiana..is that the hawaiian burger place in ochanomizu? a hamburger with monteroy jack and those fries that r impossibly crispy, man those were good. Too bad i stopped eating meat :p .

  4. u know this thread has a scary correlation with japan and north korea/USA and iraq. should we pre-empt the the guys we don't get along? i guess it comes down to how much of a threat they represent. i dunno what really happened so i'm not gonna pass judgement on second hand information altho i'm re-assured by most people's reluctance to resort to violence.

    peace out dudes

  5. okay, about the donnie=jesus thing. First of all, donnie sacrifices himself so that everybody else could go on living. Secondly, there's this idea the old lady puts in his head about dying alone. try to imagine it from donnie's point of view and u can see the jesusy "into your arms i commit my spirit...why have u forsaken me?" idea that god's doing an "omakase" on Donnie. Thats where i got the jesus reference from. Might be just me tho.

About the living receptor - have a look at the official site. It shows sum of the pages from the "philosophy of time travel" book and it's mentioned in there.

As for vanity smurf...if vanity's as bent as a fish hook, how does the dude get his rocks off? there must be other gay smurfs who just haven't outted themselves. My vote goes to handy smurf, the tat and the buff, manly voice he does just totally gives it away.

as for taking gretchen up the mountain near the end...who knows? i don't have a theory there. another thing i'm confused about is the time travel thing. Did any time travelling actually take place? Was the whole movie just donnie seeing the future and the consequence of him not dying? Donnie and monitoff were having a conversation about time travel and that time travel required some sort of vessel. if the vessel is the plane engine, did it travel thru time? it still fell at the same time in the real universe. But the site tells u that there are two identical engines therefore making the engine that landed on donnie's house the engine from the plane in the tangent universe. so donnie, after reading the book on time travel, works out how to manipulate the engine to travel back 28 days and have it appear in the real universe. is that what happened in the end?

I'm still confused. but it was a great movie. Did anybody else get into the tears for fears laden sound track?

  6. i think batty's post got mixed up and sent to this topic by mistake. He's prolly wondering where the hell his post has gone.

As for the movie, i think it was purposely made to be intepreted in many ways. This is what i thought.

    1) in the movie, fate is pre-determined. Donnie was supposed to die on oct 2nd but Frank wakes him up and he doesn't. this is the start of the tangent universe.

    2) The time limit is how much time until the universe will end. The normal universe and tangent universe can co-exist for a while. The universe is also not a perfect place and sumtimes things like this pop up every now and again. jet engines fall out of the sky on the wrong date. Or was Frank just pulling donnie's chain? was the end of thw world just the end of donnie's personal world ie his mum, sister, Gf and frank dies or everybodys ie everybody dies?

    3) The jet engine is the artifact/vessel.

    4) Donnie is the living receiver.

    5) Frank is the manipulated dead. manipulated by who? god? Roberta sparrow mentioned to donnie that we all die alone. Did she mean that there is no god?

    6) Frank wants donnie to go back in time and die on his bed, thus not creating the tangent in the first place and making everything okay. Or was the only thing that travelled thru time the jet engine?

    7) Donnie = jesus?

    8) Vanity smurf = gay?

    9) Am i reading way too much into this movie?

I think i am. i don't have the dvd so i have no idea what was on the cut scenes/commentary. Would appreciate it sumone could enlighten me. This is starting to get obsessive, i think i have to sit down and watch the movie again.

  7. definately no

    and like miteyak has said,

being anti war does not equal being pro saddam.

and also, iraq does not equal al queda does not equal bin laden.

in other words, if there was a way to oust saddam and his family out of power without bombing a starved country back into another stone age, yeh, that'd be nice. As to how tho, I wish i had a decent idea.

  8. (LOTSA SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE)

I watched this film a few nights ago and my mind has been ALIVE since. it's got to be the best mind warping movie i've seen in a long time. I can't stop thinking about it. Anybody else got a theory about what happened? i went to the site www.donniedarko.com (it messes u around as well) and i've kind of formulated an idea about what happened but i wouldn't mind hearing other people's theories first. So, doozo, lemme hear ya thoughts.

  9. this might be a bit late but here goes,

IMHO, i don't think what sum of the people on this board have expressed is bigotry or racism. I would term it it "constructive criticism". As an asian australian, i find that sumtime non-asians have a "molly coddle" attitude to towards asia. it's okay to forgive and overlook certain things, cos, hey they're asians. I mean, during the bubble days, the japanese economy and way of business was touted by many japan observers to be the way of the future. on top of that, the japanese society was the poster boy(or girl) for world communities - high standard of living, low crime, kid's getting good grades in school and everybody's happy. People came to japan and saw, well, only what they wanted to see. there's so much i could rant on about but i won't. anybody who lives in japan will know what i'm talking about.

Japan's a country that's always been very receptive to "gaiatsu" simply because of the concept of "gaman" in japanese society. endure this, endure that, it's all "shikata ga nai". I had a talk with a japanese lady yesterday about women getting groped on trains, eventually we got to why some gropee's just wait for the next stop and get off instead of confronting the groper. She said japanese women just can't do it we're weren't brought up this way. She even went on to say women who speak out will have trouble getting married. Sheesh. What i'm trying to say is that japanese society is boxed in, straightjacketted into accepting things as they are. Japanese people, i imagine, would rarely go into a resort and complain. and i think they would be treated as kooks for being outside of the group mentality. most people would just "gaman". it's much easier this way and there's no "meiwaku".

So as for mud hut, tin shed, shanty whatever, as a description, yeh not good, cos it's not too close to the truth. But not too far from the truth to be dismissed either. I've never been to a resort outside of japan so i don't have a frame of reference to compare with other countries. like golf courses, ski resorts were a must have item for mountain towns and cities in the bubble era. As a result, resorts suffer from poor planning, poor infrastructure and now, poor profitability. So yeh, i would say the japanese ski industry is in a sorry state. not all resorts and not all aspects tho, i'm pretty impressed by the auto flush latrine doobies in the toilets. anyway, it's 6 in the morning now and time for me to go and try to get sum sleep b4 i go to work.

    "criticism is good"
