Take a look at the map of the place and try to work out where there's some flat. The one I can remember is getting from the 'left side' of the mountain over to Utopia (?). Even on skis and getting some speed up, there was a bit of walking involved. Sorry that isn't more descriptive!

I think the JMA jinxed it when their long-range forecasts predicted a cold December/January with more snow than usual....
They are predicting a warmer than usual Feb/March so perhaps that is good!

They got the sushi, slow motion Tokyo and most other Japan cliches in there, but I didn't notice a Shinkansen and Fuji.
Which was quite disappointing!

For extremely easy to get to views, the ones from Yuzawa Kogen and Gala Yuzawa are pretty great I think as shown here by muika.

It may well be an old custom but I do not think it is common place.
I would guess that it also will have less relevance as the years go on as well.
In my many years in Japan, I have never seen it or been offered. Thankfully.
Obviously I am also in need of an education.
