Period?! Just like you, I don't know the situation at all resorts, but I do know that the above is not true. Many resorts do push the above aspects of their resort as well as the ski/boarding aspect, but there is a demand for those things from a considerably large market. Many of those resorts are also possibly trying to attract members of the general public who may not be ski-board-baka and who want more to a vacation than just skiing or snowboarding. The hardcore skiers and boarders already know about the places they want to go in their own community. Too much snow for them to consider opening up because of the danger of avalanche in that area. (And probably the staff needed to keep it open). They usually open it up in the spring.
As for the Dragondola - Prince wanted people who were riding the Kagura areas to stay in their lovely hotel (ahem). With them all being linked up, not only will they get more people stuffed in the hotel, but they are hoping to get more people to the area now that it's "bigger and better" and got "the worlds largest gondola".
At one point, the madmen were thinking of creating a new Kanetsu expressway IC exit - a tunnel from Tsuchitaru (where it comes out of the main tunnel into Yuzawa from Gunma) straight through to Naeba

Me me! It was really good, I like that place. Not as much snow as I was hoping for, but it was open.

From what I can gather lots of kids get cash in envelopes. I don't like that idea, it just don't seem right to me. 4 years olds getting 5000 in a futo.

I was up at Kagura. Snow was ok, certainly not the best for the place. Seen it much busier as well. A great day
