    Respect your hosts
    • Learn a few simple Japanese words
before arriving as a little can go a long
    way.
    • Remove your shoes when entering homes
    and some restaurants.
    • Be polite and courteous to shop owners
    and accommodation managers.
    • Rowdy behaviour in public places such as onsens, bars, restaurants and lift lines will not
    be tolerated. lol.gif
    • Chopsticks etiquette: Do not hold the chopsticks between your teeth, use your chopsticks like drumsticks, stand your chopsticks up in a bowl of rice, or pass food directly from chopsticks to chopsticks. lol.gif
    • Sort and dispose of rubbish correctly.
    • Don’t ski/board on roads or footpaths.
sounds more like a list of dos an don`ts you get for an upcoming school camp. do they include a list of what clothes to bring:-
    2 pair of socks
    2 pair of underware
waterproof jacket in case it... SNOWS
    ...

What a classic movie. once watched it 12 times in seven days, including once back to back. \:\( was sad when i had to return it to the video store

watched LIVE FOREVER last weekend- the story about Brit pop and found it to be quite interesting. Liam Gallagher being interviewed whilst choofing on a splif is a crack up
  3. Good post!! To the average punter it doesn`t make much difference. But the more advanced at riding/skiing you become, I believe it does. It also depends on what you wanna get out of your riding/skiing. I`m believe in giving yourself every chance. Like FT said, "...depends on the type of skiing..."

I have my board tuned/waxed after every session. When I enter boardX, my board is tuned after every heat. I`m pretty fortunate that I`ve become friends with the dude who owns the local board store. He sponsors/supports a few riders and I enter the same races he attends. Choosing the right wax can, and often does, make the difference between winning and losing. I can sure notice the difference after my board has been waxed/tuned.

  4. yeah nige, think it was part o`tha red bull thingy. he doesn`t give the exact location (other than Wakayama)but i`m tippin it`s no `secret spot`. he did however say, "They`re the biggest waves I`ve ever ridden." and comin from TC, thats a fair call.

who cares if they`re not `perfect`. BIG wave riding waves are never really gonna be clean and shaped the way you`re local break is/gets. there`s no way you`re gonna get a nice `glass out` with that amount of water moving around and the winds at near gale force. (the closest thing i`ve seen is Tahiti) which just adds to tha fact that they are FREAKS!

same here soubs, i`ve been hookin into these of late too. if you don`t know much about wine then you`re probly not gonna know the difference between cask wine and some bottled wine. also depends on who you`re inviting to dinner and whether or not you`re out to impress

  6. "If you can`t say anything nice about someone/something, don`t say anything at all."

I`m a big believer in not saying anything `bad` about peeps who are no longer in the Breathing Arena. For starters, they have no right of reply. It`s okay to have thoughts or an opinion but what is gained by airing them/it.

    Found this article interesting: http://blogs.theage.com.au/thedailytruth/archives/2006/09/crocodile_tears.html

i guess everyone has their price hey?
when i started snowboarding i had all burton gear and never had any trouble- its good gear. as i got into it more i realised that there is as good and better gear around- personal taste i guess.
arrow.gif i did some riding with a guy who at the time worked for burton- he organised the burton cup- he told me that they had the technology to make gear that lasts way longer than it normally does but if they made it they`d have no repeat sales..and average punters wouldn`t be able to afford it in the first place

like i said the above places beat niseko. also the japanese rank shiga kogen snow as the best quality in japan. in december its always hit and miss. 3 years ago niseko had nothing and we were sking waist deep
I remember that, it was in the 10 days leading up to xmas. I was at Tsugaike with you, sinking to the waist when post holing out of the trees. Thee days later I went to Niseko and had pure ice groomers, closed pistes due to rocks and grass patches and 3 feet of snow in the trees with 6 feet of sassa grass poking out.

But that could easily be the other way around.

Man I was a kook wanker back then.
... yeah, but how was the company you were rubbin shoulders with ;\)
you may have been a `kook wanker` but you were also like a kid in a lolly shop.

so many places (not only in japan) are hit n miss. i stayed at Big White (out) for a almost a month and never rode freshies. spent 3 days at Red Mountain and it was knee-waist deep each day.
  9. thats nah good oo, totally sympathise with your feelings. i think most (non-japanese) people who live in this island nation have experienced something similar at one stage or another. i just try and put it down to `experience`. try not to dwell on it and keep in mind that not all japanese are like him.

story: today i went for lunch to a chain ramen shop. it was pretty chokkers. i made me way to the counter and sat patiently waiting to have my order taken. about 5min. had passed when another customer walks in and sits two seats away and waits patiently also. about another 5min. elapsed when one of the waitresses made her way to our section. now he knew i hadn`t order cos i was still checkin out the menu, as was he. both of our body language suggested we were ready to order but the waitress takes his order and makes her way to another section. i continued to sit there for about another 3-4min. then i got up and left!!! i was dartin this guy some pretty dirty looks before i left. how hard would it have been for him to say, "this dude was here before me." ?? by no way peeved at tha shop or staff. this is just yet another experience to go in the book!

nb: went around the corner to a local family run ramen shop and thoroughly enjoyed my meal and service \:\)

  10. went to mos burger last weekend. thats not the funny part! but just when i thought i`d seen almost everything...

went to the toilet and they had a "Flush Sound" button. gave it a go and the stupid thing went for 25 seconds. apparently its so you don`t get embarassed by `sounds` you may make while `going`.

had a good old belly-laugh at that one!! lol.gif
