「暑さ日本一のまち」の座をめぐって、猛暑地がＰＲ合戦を繰り広げている。
高知県四万十市で１２日、国内の観測史上最高気温となる４１度を記録。それまで６年間、４０・９度の記録を持っていた埼玉県熊谷市、岐阜県多治見市は、日本一の座を譲った。両市を猛追していた群馬県館林市なども加わって、厳しい暑さと闘いながら、せめてもの遊び心でお互いに地域を売り出そうとしている。
四万十市の国道沿いにある産地直売店にはさっそく、「あつさ日本一」と書かれた看板がお目見え。１００円のかき氷を、気温にちなんだ４１円で売り始めた。
地元商工会の武内淑(しずか)さん（３５）は「全国一の暑さを前向きにとらえ、ＰＲしたい」と力を込める。最高気温を記録した同市西土佐地区は、愛媛県境に近い山間部にある。清流・四万十川が知られる程度だった。
そこに降ってわいた日本一の称号。「暑いぞ」とプリントしたＴシャツやタオルを作り、子どものＰＲ隊を結成する案も浮上しているという。
ただ、困った事態も起きている。四万十川特産のアユの漁獲量が落ちたのだ。水温が例年より高く、アユが深場から動かず、浅瀬の漁場からほとんど姿を消してしまった。地元漁協は「このままだとアユ漁は壊滅状態」と気をもんでいる。

暑さにあえぐ太陽をかたどったキャラクター「あつべえ」を前面に、暑さを売りにしてきた熊谷市。ウナギとかっぱがモチーフの「うながっぱ」を使ってＰＲする多治見市。
暑さ日本一を競ってきた両市の人たちは、７月から最高気温をフェイスブックに載せて対決。１日おきに地域のイベントなどを紹介していた。
多治見市の古川雅典市長は「４０度を超す日が続いていたので、いつか抜かれると思っていたが、こんなにあっさり……」と少し残念そうだが、「再逆転もありうる。暑さ日本一の看板は当面は下ろさない」とも。

館林市は最高気温の記録は４０・３度だが、１日の最高気温が例年、全国で最も高い日が多い。昨年７、８月は１４日あったが、今年は７月以降で２日のみと、少なくなった。
館林商工会議所は、暑さを乗り切るご当地グルメを決める「日本一ＨＯＴなまち館林！！ 激辛・激甘・激冷グルメ総選挙」を開催中。担当者は「暑さは西日本から東日本に移ってくるはず。まだまだこれからですよ」と語る。
４０・７度を記録した甲府市も暑さを売りにする。市中心街の商店街では午前１０時の気温が３０度以上、または午後１時の気温が３３度以上になると、割引や冷たい飲み物をサービスするキャンペーンを実施。商店街会の浅川敏行会長（５３）は「暑さは活性化のきっかけになる」と話している。

Anyone else try one of the 1000 yen McDonalds burgers today (or last two Saturdays)?
Had the Ruby something-or-other today.
It was actually quite nice. Nicer than a normal McDs as you would expect. But it certainly was not worth 1000 yen!
The crazy packaging (a firm box that looks more like a cake box, fancy bag) they put the thing in must have made up for a good chunk of the cost.
Took a few photos, will post later to show you what it looked like.

Actually had this tonight.....2 tables, 1 by the door where we waited until there was a spare table and then when we got seated further inside the izakaya.....1st one was mostly pimple faced young guys trying to impress a couple of chicks with over the top laughing and clapping, the 2nd table was a shockingly dressed Yankee bird squeaking and shrieking her way to be noticed above her plainer dressed but hotter mates.....the guys they were with seemed to prefer the orange faced , flamboyantly dressed squak box over the more demure, attractive girl......either way both tables were inducing an intensive drive to dish out a few flying headbutts!!
Not fun when you're not in the gang.
The answer is timing, Famiresu, or posh places.

Still the station is around 25km from Akakura and 30km from Suginohara.

Caught a bit of that.
What surprised me was how 'old' (well, in their 20's) quite a few of them were. Some were closing in on 30 even in a few years.
