  1. haha, i don't think i should be proud of that compliment! at least from the standpoint of my wallet...

usually they delaminate from doing spins, and landing with one ski angling into the other ski. one time i ran into a tree with one ski and bent it pretty good (beyond repair). i've also ripped the edge off the inside of a ski (a long section along one side of the ski - i couldn't turn).

so basically i don't break my skiis in half or anything that dramatic, but i hurt them badly enough that no amount of glue and/or duct tape will fix them. actually, you can check out my current glue-job www.irc.atr.co.jp/~deaton/movies.html

i'm proud of this one, because it has held for about 2 months now!

  2. ok, i found the best tradeoff between speed and price: the ferry. for 7000 yen, you can go from kyoto to hokkaido in just over 24 hours. not bad eh. the ferries run every day, and leave at 10 pm - and get there the next next day at 4:00 am. i imagine the trip will be pretty beautiful too. best of all it runs all year around, so you aren't restricted to this "10000" yen deal that all the domestic airlines have. i'm there!

    peace!

  3. Hey everyone!

Yep, I've been going once a week usually. It costs 2500 yen for 2 hours, and then 600 yen thereafter. I used to go after work, but since I live near Nara that usually meant I could only ski for 2 hours. I like to go on the weekends because you can go for 5 hours for 3700 yen. I still go during the week as well though too. It's really easy to get to - just take the Hanshin line and get off at Nishinada (it's a 2 minute walk from there).

I won't go for a week or so because relatives are visiting me now but after that I'm definitely gonna have to scratch the skiing itch that is building!

You should come out sometime, it would be fun to meet some other skiier/snowboarders.

  4. Hi everyone,

This is a great site!! I'm going to Japan in June, and am wondering how the newschool ski scene is over there. I'll be living in Kyoto, are there any good hills nearby for parks or just good natural hits? Also, how tolerant are the Japanese to building jumps? (is there much backcountry for this at your average mountain?) Do many of the indoor ski hills have parks?

    Thanks, Dan

  5. I'm in the UK and never been to Japan but found this site from a skiing site in the US, and it's well sweet....one of the best winter sports sites I have ever seen. You guys are well lucky to have this at your disposal!

Makes me want to visit Japan!
