  1. A few hundred years ago certian people ate other humans and then they realised that it wasnt acceptable to the wider population of the world. Ditto with whales. The Maori people of NZ used to eat both and eat neither anymore. I think Japan should take a leaf out of their book.

A while ago I got my hands on a pamphlet Japanese interestes were circulating in NZ about "how would you feel if lamb was suddenly not able to be eaten" soooo lame and totally missed the point.

  2. I reckon for accents dont think that る=ru because it doesnt. Thats just a way that it is represented. Forget all about English and just try and say it how Japanese are. forget your accent and listen listen listen!

Im getting that horrible Japanese woman thing where my voice changes when Im speaking on the phone or to groups of people. No noo nononono mad.gif

  3. I think a lot of the company benefits for married couples is kinda to help out wifey when shes off bearing sproggs and cant work and it is often her that ends up bringing up the kids. Maybe this makes it more likely that the dude will stay with the company and less willing to leave and take his skills and knowledge with him.

    just an idea.

I dont think homosexuals are deviant. Thats like saying virgins are because they are such a small portion of the population!

  4. from my experience (on my legs) the electric shaver doesnt give as close a shave but is good for a quick de-fuzz or if you dont want to lather up, but nothing beats the blade for smoothness (except perhaps waxing or epilation but I dont think youd be into that!)

  5. I got up graded once.

I had left Fiji at about 2am after not much sleep for a few nights and after 9 hrs was circling Tokyo but due to fog couldnt land. Circled for an hr (10 hrs into flight now) and couldnt get diverted to Nagoya as was full with other planes going there and not enought fuel to go to Kansai apparently so had to land at Haneda. No customs facilities so had to wait IN the plane ON the tarmac for a further 6 hrs till the people got their shit sorted and the guards at the botom of the plane left (we are up to 16 hrs now in that friggen plane). No food, plenty of booze, bored to tears, no movies. Finally a China Air flight had arrived and they opened customs for us.

Problem was I was at Haneda with no yen and no money changing facilites, couldnt even use my credit card and had to get to Narita in 3 hrs to meet the people to take me to the resort in Gunma I was working at. Hmmm. Waaaaaay too much booze had been consumed in the 6 hrs on the tarmac and all the Japanese people fled as they were where they wanted to be. I remember sitting with another plane survivor on the curb and crying.... tears get you EVERYWHERE. Eventually got a lift with the flight crew (who by then were good buddies) and they spotted us a cab to Narita where I was there 10 mins early....

I wrote a letter and complained at the lack of facilites to conect us to Narita. The rest of it wasnt really their fault, just circumstance but I didnt hear anything. I was waiting at the gate to board the plane on the way home when I realised my boarding pass said FIRST CLASS and I tell ya it was a sweet sweet flight back to NZ. Turned out they didnt have my address to send me a letter.

  6. What ever you want it to be Zookie baby.

Still very hot language, just rolls of the tounge

from my misty memory and horrible spelling:

    "Buna di mineata Principessa!"

    or even better

    "Vino se te pup"

    or steaming

    "Es place?"

    or damn hot

    "hi se facum dragoste"

    grrrrrrrr :p

  7. Im not too picky because Ive usually paid bottom dollar for the flight. In my humble experience:

Malaysia - great, personal tv screens, good food, nice people that bring lots of drinks

Korea - fine, decent food, ok movies, good airport, usually one of the cheaper so good. Slightly higher baggage allowance (24kg rather than 20) great

Qantas - absolutely shit. Grumpy workers, 1 movie in the 9 hr haul from Brisbane and I was in business class damnit! Bitchy women who think they are the shit

Air Pacific - friendly people, ok meals, getting a few nights in Fiji for the same price FANTASTIC

Air Niugini - one of the only ways to get to PNG so not being picky. Actually big comfy planes and helpful but not friendly attendants

JAL - pretty sloppy food and boring movies but helpful attendants. If I had to pick Id have helpful rather than friendly anyday! All the anoying Japanese oyajis on the plane suck though

Air NZ - ok. hearing kiwi accents great, footrests good, food good, flying home direct GREAT.

Ive never had baggage lost so it doesnt come into it.

  8. I dont really mind flying. Im usually so excited about going somewhere that I dont really get bored. I just try not to worry about not sleeping because if I cant sleep then it aint going to happen. I guess the fact that I am relatively easily entertained is a bonus. A movie has to be pretty horendous for me not to watch it and last time I came back I bought the 4th Harry Potter at the airport in NZ and it was done by the time I got back to Nagano a day later. I am also pretty good at thinking about nothing and just passing time. I shoulda been a zen Monk(ess?)

However I am sick to death of flying alone. If you have a buddy to pass the time with the trip goes much faster.

Trips to the toilet, washing my face, walking up and down the aisle sussing out the hotties and "accidently" knocking their foot, doing the exercises in the inflight magazine, getting lots of drinks off the steward/ess and next thing ya know youre starting to decend.

Also I got completly wasted on a flight once. I was sitting between 2 alcoholic mates who had the stewardesses on each aisle supplying our booze and when i landed it really hit me how trashed I was. Not good trying to keep a straight face going through customs "nothing to declare, honest ocifer"..

However for my next trip I am flying Pakistan airlines then Mongolian airlines so my opinions may change.

  9. That first pic is sick, just sick. It made something inside of me go ooooh. I want to be in that powder, blowing it up behiend me mmmm. Not the kind of stuff youd want to get stuck in mind you!

And the last one has to be nz, braided river, snow on just the peaks. 5 weeks till Im there, oh yeah (just my periodic skite. Who wants a ski buddy in NZ from 19th Aug? Im mateless at the mo)

  10. I was at Himaraya in Nagano yesterday and they have next seasons skis there (sorry wasnt looking at boards). The prices werent too steep I didnt think. the dude in the shop kept trying to talk to me and I wasnt in the mood so I didnt linger long and just had a glance at colours/graphics and the specs. Lots to choose from and lots of good lookin stuff.

  11. yeah I noticed that, esp on the slopes its a bluebird day and the glare is something wicked and there are people with no eye wear squinting all day long. I mean a)wrinkles b)headaches c)vision probs d)sunburn

one of my workmates said that foreigners wear sunglasses because they have light eyes so it doesnt protect against bright sunlight. She was amazed when I pointed out it is indeed the black bit in the middle that you see out of. Or maybe its just that foreigners are cool cool.gif

  12. Guys in suits is always a mmmmmm. Unless its with white sox - what is it with j guys here. No! No! Dame!

I usually just wear a skirt or dress trou and a shirt or tidy top. I need to do up an extra button here though that I never needed to back home.

I sent all my clothes home yesterday so for the next 2 weeks Im either stuck with clothes that are going to get binned or stuff Im taking travelling. Needless to say I dont look good today. \:\(

  13. back to the "stupid and annoying" I heard a guy the other day yelling a website across the office and he was saying "dabu dabu dabu dotto ...."

that dubdubdub really made me want to stand up and get him to say it over and over until he could do it properly, or at least wash his mouth out with soap.

back to the borrowed words in English though, we dont pretend that they are English like "lingerie" we say "lohn ger ay" and although the pronunciation may be horrible, we at least make some kind of effort to at least try to pronounce it correctly.

    ok thats my 5c

  14. I have found it quite tough to make good quality Japanese friends out here and have been screwed over a couple of times by people who I thought were my mates. It definately is a lot easier to make gaijin friends but the Japanese ones are rewarding and you get to see and do lots you wouldnt be able to otherwise.

In my experience it is 10x easier to make good same sex friends. I think Japan just doesnt have the opposite sex friend thing like we do (damn my Engish is horrendous) and they cant fathom why youd want to hang out unless you wanted to hook up (but that could be just in the countryside)(and that might be your intention anyway ;\) ).

like danz said find someone that has the same interestes as you and even if your Japanese kicks ass Ive found its usually the people that have travelled a bit that make the better friends.

  15. is she proposing a 3some? Damn I cringe to think of some of the stupid shit I must have said in Japanese that came out completely wrong.

A similar thing, I was at a bbq at a friends place last night and one of the foreigners (Hayden) had made some gingerbeer that be brought along. The japanese people werent sure what to make of it being kind of spicy and sweet and decided to refer to it as "Hayden juice". The foreigners were sniggering all night offering "would you like some more Hayden juice"

  16. If Im out I dont lock the doors windows usually but I lock it when I get home because I dont want some weirdo coming into my house when Im there. The phone calls are bad enough...

If I know Im going to come home late when its dark then I usually make the effort. If Im out for the weekend I leave one of the windows open because often someone wants to borrow something.

I dont usually lock my car unless there is something in it I dont want stolen. But if there isnt and Im at my mates house I often leave the keys in the ignition so I know where they are. That sounds bizare but I dont think anyone wants to go joy riding in my old dunger let alone steal it!

In NZ I always lock the door always.
