I def like a drop or two but like neversummer was saying the dehydration takes its toll and I tend to get a bit tipsy more easily. I dont like to get trolleyed though, if Ive got a days skiing ahead of me I want to be able to hit it with all the meagre energy my body can muster togther.
I prefer to save the boozing for summer and then make up for lost time

Nah I like the word quiver, it has the conotation of thinking to oneself
"what will my weapon of choice be today?" and thats nice, having the choice.
Being an complete munter I STILL havent decided what to get so there is a big fat nothing in my quiver.
and jeez lay off Shimba
stop being mean you fellas

They do it in summer too. With that astro turf kinda stuff and they spray ir with water and make it all slippy dippy. They wore the same looking suits in summer too but I didnt go feel it so I dont really know. Crazy to watch those guys launching onto plastic grass, big ups for them.

Jan 15 every year. It used to be a public holiday but not anymore so it may well fall on a random weekday but thats not a bad thing sometimes because you get more pow for yourself and mates - unless they are gentlemanly (or foolish? ) to turn it down

In NZ we have transsexual MP and I could be wrong here but did s/he used to be a hooker? No one really seems to care though. Georgina Beyer is her name

Yeah that was a seriously crazy day eh, after all the snow and a freezing night in the fire to wake up to bluebird and powder that was ALL OURS. Damn that was good. I think it might have been your first full on Japan powder day eh Ender0, it was epic. I still cant believe you were decent enough to spend 2 hrs with the ladies Barok, you are one paitent dude. And we never did find No Fakie and his lady.
Yeah Alferg if ya can get to the fire festival. You wouldnt belive what they are allowed to do.

man Im all thumbs up for Nekobis vid editing. Ya just gotta see what that girl can do. So good so funny and such good stuff - except when its you with soot all over your face in the konbini at 5am. I didnt want to see that again

snickers bars
kitkats (the ones you break off not the chunky or I eat the whole lot in one go and are disappointed )
I also always bought a torigomoku onigiri. The nori is already wrapped around it so with a bit of practice you can get the wrapper off with gloves still on and it can squish and is still tasty and doesnt seem to freeze (unlike snickers on the odd occasion)
Back in NZ im enjoying museli bars too. Konbinis in Japan should def have muslei bars.

it looks like those spacies games where you have a monster screen and you go down a course etc but without the game. Now that doesnt look like fun.
dont rate the style either. Friggen heel pushers.

badmigs I was meaning music to listen to in the morning to get you moving, good ass shakin stuff to defrost your head in the morning and something to listen to in the car on the way up and when youre booting up etc.
Im still mixed about music when I ski though. Sometimes on a solo day it can make the lift times pass a bit quicker but I like to listen when Im skiing for the inevitiable "shiiiiiiit" from someone out of control and the music of my skis on the snow. But its a hassle turning it on off on off on off.
So I sing on the lift instead if there is no one around - and usually its what was last playing in the car before I took the keys out

I agree with shimba (or is it Jared? ) make a routine and then it doesnt seem like such a hassle. After youve dried your gear etc pack it up so its ready to go. Getting some ski mad mates always helps too, having someone to "talk shop" with always gets me amped. Good psyche up music is essential. Plan a few big weekends to stay away with a group of friends and revel in the anticipation. Its not hard to get hooked though. You have been warned.

Having said that, however, I feel that having a proper foundation to build oral and aural language skills on is important. I scoffed at my many years of studying Japanese before actually going to Japan for any significant time but compared to others that didn't have that foundation to build on, I was somehow streaks ahead. Grammar, reading and writing and the rest of it may be super boring to study but it does you good in the end,
Mogs where did you study that? Sounds intense. Did you get a bit burnt out at all? And why werent there really any freaks in my classes? There was a limit of 20 people in each of the 2 classes but everyone seemed pretty normal and up for a laugh. I cant believe I missed out on 6 hrs a week with freaks that would have broken the monotony. -
at my unversity in NZ we had 4 hrs of grammar and kanji a week (ie "book work") then 1 hr in the audio visual suite, watching videos, reading stuff out loud etc and 1 hr of conversation classes a week. These were pretty fun actually, small class of about 8 people and we had to make role plays, do speeches, talk about our favourite ??? etc.
It sounds like lots but I felt woefully inadequate when I came out, whether this is cos Im pig stoopid or not I dont know.
The people in class were pretty cool, and I got to know them pretty well with so much class time and we used to hang out lots after class etc. Most of them were doing law/business etc degrees in conjunction so it was a nice break for them from the heavy stuff.

Im with Mikazooki
the more comfort I sacrifice the more thrill I can get seems to be the way my life goes. But having said that a good splurge every now and again is good for the soul, but usually on stuff that I need or plane tixs etc.
I hardly ever spend significant money on accom, as long as I wont get bitten by bugs or freeze to death or endanger myself then Im more than happy to sleep just about anywhere. The same goes with meals, if Im away I dont usually want to spend much as it means less booze I can afford

screw u ender0
lets have a look at our members pages shall we? I dont see a scrap of makeup there. Nope. Youre getting us confused with your useless biarches that think riding is the way to pick up and so glue on their fake eyelashes and spend 2 mins infront of the bathroom mirrors arranging the hair sticking out of their hat so its "perfect". (Im not even kidding)
Nope thats not Nekobi and me. We're hard . We might look like shit on the mtn but who cares?
Putting make up on indeed. And this coming from Ender"Ive only got 60 things in my toiletry bag"
And yeah sometimes you are waiting for me at the bottom but none of that compares to waiting at the top of the quad for you and barok to wade out of waist deep pow and then walk back up the slope after the lifts had shut.
And if you dont like grumpy zwelgen in the morning then take your own car!
Im feeling a little defensive today

the ever elusive and secret ender0 ladies and gentlemen!
cmon spill the beans. Off to Hokkaido? More tank commanding that needs to be perfected?

ghosts in the house was pretty friggen freaky too!

I was rafting and we stopped at a pool to rest and have a swim. Some of us decided to jump off rocks, which turned into jumping off cliffs. Being so tough I climbed the high one, knowing I had to jump out far enough to get over the rocks at the bottom. Jumped...
and realised I hadnt jumped out far enough and truly believed that I was about to die.
funnily enough all I felt was pure utter peace like I have never felt before then or since.
and then I hit the water and made my mouth bleed . It shook me up for a while after that but Im not really scared of dying anymore

wuss
why dont you guys hit up Nekobi? she lives between Nagano and Nozawa - and she has a car! -
salomon xwaves. New last year and I love them. They totally upped my game

2 nights ago I had a dream
I was in Japan, def Japan and was at the top of a resort. Suddenly these big chunks of snow peeled away from the mountain and went rolling down the hill, like icebergs breaking off antarctica. They were crushing riders left right and centre and burrying people. On reflection it was like a bad cartoon or computer game really.
I got out ok. Drove home but I didnt live there anymore. Weird
Maybe Im adicted too

Now maybe with a snowboard riding pow is easy to learn. I will admit that the new skis have helped to make sking easier but it will take more than a week to find your balance in powder. If that same skier uses fat skis then maybe they will be fine but on the groomed they wont be able to turn those huge fat skis.
completely off topic
And I agree with what db said waaaaaaaaaaay ealier about kiwis/ozzies overseas being ****ers. WTF is with that/ It really makes me cringe sometimes when you realise what kind of image they put out there of our countries. ouch.
And my 5c on snowbeds. A good option if youve got a big posse as they have a 10 person room and then you dont really have to bother with the attitude. I thought Mitch was a bit of a **** and his lady was great but thats about it. But I could def see why it would piss other people, esp guys off. Personally I thought Josh was an equal ****. But if Im paying 3000/night and rarking it up with my mates then I dont really care. But I wouldnt want to stay more than a couple of nights I dont think. If there was an alternative cheap option Id be into it (hint hint Snapper ) -
I can see your point Fats, Ilike hakuba but from where I lived it was an easy choice between Nozawa a cruisy 15 mins away or Hakuba a good 1:30 on icy roads. Its shit that the expressway goes round the other side of Nagano city eh. If I was coming from the South i dont think Id spend the extra time driving, although its only about 30 mins from Nagano city on the joetsu expressway if you come that way.
But I really do think that Nozawa has lots to offer and I can honestly say I didnt really get bored of riding there. I think people write it off because they dont realise how far up and back into the mtns it goes (it took me about 10x riding to work out there were actually 2 gondolas!)
Ok Im bleating now.
Shame Im not still there alferg cos you and your mates would have found a futon at Chateau Zwelgen. Shame I wont be able to extend the courtesy to you neither Fattwins.
Is powder all it's cracked up to be?

If youre a skier then Im not surprised at your thoughts on powder. It took me a while to get the knack of it and I remember thinking "is this supposed to be fun?". And 100% agree with NoFakie, you need plenty of speed. Powder is going to give you heaps more friction than youre used to so you gotta combat that. the plus is that it doesnt hurt. And try and keep your legs a little more close together than you usually would on the piste so youre hitting the same kind of stuff at the same time and one leg doesnt get dragged off etc
However if you are a boarder ignore all the above
