Pete, at the time it felt like hell & in the surf camp (lakei) I was in at the time rumours were that I had died! (only because I hadn't been seen in the water for a week). Doc in Dompu told my wife that I was going to croak it, because I hadn't taken any anti malarials. Though, when symptoms started I hammered Larium like there was no tomorrow and quickly flew to Bali for IV drip & other treatment.

My bro had Cerebal Malaria and was sick for a week in Japan on a visit from the Telo's. Docs dismissed it as malaria and after a week he was over it and just wanted to get home to get better. They wouldn't let him on the plane because he was too weak and his fever was out of control, 3 hours later in a large hospital in Japan whilst waiting to see a doc he went unconcious. The had to feed a drip from his groin into his heart which was very hard to watch. To this day I reckon that if he got on that flight he wouldn't be here today.

The power of those damn mosquito's ...

I had Dengue back in 2001. My wife was saying the other day that she read something that Dengue is pretty deadly 2nd time around. I don't know how true it is but Occy said in an interview that he had it a few years ago in Bali.
  3. Just had news in that my bro's mate got hit by the Tsunami.

He was in his tent camping @ Lances left and was underwater in his tent trying to breath through his tent material, 2nd wave hit and hit got tangled in his fly and thought it was all over, miraculously the thing ripped and he got free.

How much would that freak you out? Can imagine.. Just glad he is OK.

The peak for flights is Dec 27 onwards. A day or two before Christmas is normally still base fare or thereabouts.

Dunno about the UK flights but flights to OZ at that time usually go up in 2-3 day increments from about the 15-18th of Dec (just depends when the weekend before falls.)
  5. I've just finished an Adv Dip and now considering my Masters in Applied finance.

Studying is so hard when you are working fulltime and have small kids, but like MB said about mature age students, I think help when trying to apply one's self. I have to pay for my studies (each course) up front and am only reimbursed if I pass. Pretty good motivation to pass.

    Sorry Indo, couldn't resist. razz

Ha ha, I can assure you that the bender I am talking about means going out and getting off ones head on various substances, definitely not sausage up the botty wink
  7. Used to be very partial to a bender or 3. (was a long time resident of Double 6 !!!) I could justify it as long as I wasn't missing a surf because of it.

Round here now I have been out of it for a while but need a good night on it.

No matter how fit you think you think you are the assistance still takes it out of you. I used to turn up on Tuesdays after benders at full contact training (Katate & Muay Thai) and get slammed no matter how fit I was!

All this talk.. get me out there!

Bobby, The flag & sign guys are paid by pretty well.
my wife was working for a small construction company when we were in Japan and told me this which was pretty suprising. I can't recall how much but I will check and let you know. (definitely more than 500yen!)

Poor you!! wink our Oficial rate in Oz is 4.5%, so borrowing is at around 6%.

Which is the reason why I'm looking at getting yen loan for my house purchase in Aus! wink

Hey GN, Don't you have to convert the JP loan into an Aussie loan if you leave Jp? That was my understanding of the one's I looked into, which can work for you but could end up costing more than the interest saved by getting the lower rate.
  10. Spook, found this on the site..

"Continental Airlines will accept one surfboard/wakeboard or one surfboard bag containing up to four boards per customer as checked baggage. Services charges (one way):

    1 surfboard $100.00

1 surfboard bag containing up to two boards $100.00

1 surfboard bag containing up to three boards $400.00

1 surfboard bag containing up to four boards $700.00

This service charge is in addition to any excess baggage charges that may apply."

We would stay with friends who aren't too far from Alois's camp. Have boat and fishing gear al ready to go. I think I would take 2 boards, pretty big jump up for anything over 3 boards.. Don't ya love those US airlines..

Waves are sucking here right now. 2 weeks of rain and another ahead by the looks of things (& SE winds)

Looks like, once you learn to read you will not forget, but writing needs constant attention.

When the Japanese have difficulty remembering Kanji how the hell do we have a chance?!!!!
