they have this touch screen tv with all sorts of games and video....one of the videos options is X-treme sports...and for 100yen you can watch a 3-5min clip of some freeskiing and boarding...cool stuff!

  2. oboy...here we go again...

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a re-write of some of the others...

the article was well written...ocean sure has a way with words...but it really was just a recap of the recent threads, with an obvious bias towards one of the sides...

what I really would like to see in this type of article is the "official" stance by resorts and patrollers on their duties and responsibilities...it seems sj has enough clout to maybe create this type of an interview...us forum members could even post questions we would liked asked...like 1)what sort of training to patrol go through to get the job 2) do you know what avalanche blasting is? 3) what constitutes a "safe" course 4) what constitutes a "dangerous" course...etc...

ocean11 is always a stickler for the facts, so why not go after them? we all have our opinions on what is and what should be based on what we see on the ground...and they are usually sound and valid, but I would like to hear what the other side is thinking, and not just our speculations...

  3. people get hurt in all professional/amatuer sports...some are higher risk than others...and all sports have big corporate sponsors trying to push the image to target groups...I don't think the x-games are different in that respect...

also, the high-publicity events really help to push the sport...remember when the x-games first came out??? I think it has definetly made some of those sports more popular, which ultimately helps it grow and become better...

  4. proud moments....there are a few...

    1) my first clean slalom run in college...what a feeling to bash through the gates from top to bottom without a hitch...my time still sucked, but it was such a rarity for me to finish that my first was a treasure

    2) my powder breakthrough run...the run I figured out how to make it down w/out falling, and truly enjoying the entire pow pow thing...no looking back from then...it was in Chamonix france too...cool

    3) my first "backcountry" trip...we were all young and stupid and totally unprepared and clueless, but came out unscathed...about a 2hr hike to some peak, put my skiis on at the tippy top summit...cool feeling...then almost pissing myself when I realized how steep the first turns were...made it down, not pretty, but huge rush...I was beeming with pride...

    hopefully more on the way!

  5. so as I was shivering in one of the corners of my apt wrapped in all my ski clothes and blankets, waiting for my heater to finally kick in, I had an idea!

what if you lined the outside walls of your home/apt. with that space blanket stuff...you know, the thin shiny aluminum foil looking stuff...I might give it a go...but be careful not to put any holes in the walls, and tape might be risky, because when its time to remove it, the whole wall could go down as well...I might have to think about this some more...

  6. its like I said...sometimes I feel it, sometimes I don't...

I can do the same trees 2 times in a row, nail it the first time, and eat it over and over the second...I must admit, the deeper the pow, the easier time I have...

and yes, the bark is a constantly evolving part of my boots...its living art...me the moutain and the trees working in "harmony"

well, i guess the best thing is to ski more! yay! \:D

  7. so...I had quite a few tree runs at takatue on sat..and I got to thinkin...sometimes I can just nail the trees, hit all the lines, good control, no stoping...and other times, i'm just awful, can't stick my lines, stoping every other turn...it sucks...

so what do y'all think about in the trees...how do I get to the "next level" :p

    just curious...

I read in some skiing magazine that it is best to look at the spaces between the trees, and not the trees...and that did wonders fro my riding, but hoping for some more tips...

    bring it on

  8. man...

I thought I had forgotten about my embarrasing moments...and now they have resurfaced...

I was in high-school...just transfered from the mid-west to the east coast, no friends...joined the ski club...had no gear, and the rental gear was the worst I have ever seen...anyone ever been in toe-entry bindings for skiis??? I didn't think so....

anyway, went up for my first run, kept stepping out of the binding...couldn't figure out why...the embarrasing part was riding down the steepest slope (which is not much...we are talking new jersey here...), fell on my face 3 times, right under the lift...check the binding, realize they are literaly cracked in half (damn rentals!), so I had to hike down the mtn...right under the lift...full of immature high school kids...I leave you to imagine the kind of ridicule I had to bear...one of the longest walks of my life... \:\(
