  1. Well, Parks in Japan are not good currently but they inproved gradually. So please give them a time!

    Also,

Depend on what kind of style you like but if you are interested "Backcountry" or "freestyle" maybe you will interest this story.

My crazy Japanese friends went up to TATEYAMA in the end of Oct. or beginning of November for snowboarding/climbing mountains. They told me they hiked up to near peak then ride snowboards. They said such an awesome experience they have ever had before.

I went to Tateyama before for climbing but really steep mountains and it was hard going for me for just climbing and hiking.

I don't know the story, snowboarding on Tateyama Mountains, is true or not. 'cos we were drinking in Tokyo and we drunk. But maybe you can try, if you are looking for crazy snowboarding trip.

  2. Gala Yuzawa = The slopes for 1 day trip. U can get cheap package deal @ JR-Higashinihon, usually about JPY126000-(inc. Shingansen returen tickets & 1 day lift pass) If you leave Tokyo stn. @ 7:00ish in the morning, U will get there at 8.30ish. The slopes are just outside of Gala Yuzawa stn.... 1min to go. And Last Shinkansen is around7.00pm.

And I plan 2 go 2 slopes every weekend by my car(Although... Due to illegal parking tickets etc.... My car licence is disquilified now....I need 2 go 2 police office 4 solving my licence ASAP). If you don't mind, I can take you with snowboarders who are I met on this website.

    Cheers

  3. 'Minami' in Jinbocho, near Ochanomizu stn, has good selection. You can buy everything in there. (Well, Jinbocho has many many snowboard/ski shops so you will see many many shops on street)

But usually I go local snowboard shop in Nerima, 'cos good service, better quality for snowboarding gear, i.e. board, binding, etc..... I go Minami only for wear, if the shop doesn't have stock...

I don't know where you live and how serious you are... but Minami is good.

  4. It was pretty sad news...

Some snowboarders make air without any preparation, i.e., exercising before snowboarding, wearing protectors/helmets.

.... I ,myself, have never wear helmets for snowboarding beofer but from now on... I should start to think about it....

    I went Gala's park 3 - 4 times last year...

so this news gave me strong feeling....

I hope everyone(inc. me ) can have great and safe winter season in 2002...

    P.S.

A Happy New year to everyone!!

Oops - almost forgot the most important part, two feet of fresh yesterday!

Yeah. We enjoyed MUSIC in Gala, didn't we?
(Goodness, Ayumi Hamazaki & BackStreet Boys' songs are still going on in my head ... Well... JAPANESE RAP X-mas song was cool.)
Personally, I think the slopes should hire proper 'DJ', if they want to play music loudly.
Anyway, we were enjoyed Fresh snow in Gala, that's main thing!

Kuma - Sorry I send an e-mail regarding January AGAIN! Ahhh.....I broke my promise again myself! (Why I keep sending message!?!? And why I never shush!?)

And what I found out now in Gala's website says that 'Test work - Weather information is fake!' in small japanese letters!! Damn!! mad.gif

Damn! I plan to go to first snowboarding this weekend, how many Snow machine they've got on Mt.!?

I really hope some snow on this weekend!!
