  1. mogski, you're right about that. Checked out Rei but they only have a very small selection. Looks like it'll have to be a trip to Tokyo. Thanks anyway.

Last year there was more available online, but now the big outlets all seem to be using the same 'service' supplier - click on 'Help' and exactly the same page comes up saying 'no intl. shipping at the moment' or some such nonsense. I hate that 'at the moment', same as the 'konkai ha...' that they say in Japan, that makes you think that if you'd just wait till tomorrow, they'd relax their tight ring-piece and everything would be OK. If some of these places would just recognize that we want to buy something, maybe the recession would go away. End of Rant.

  2. 'Stop this nonsense'

Well, it's only nonsense if a snowboarding trip to Hakuba is a major undertaking involving a lot of time and expense. Otherwise, a cloud like that (that sometimes opens enough to show gleaming white mountain - I bin watchin' from my window) bodes very well for some leisurely suberi on Saturday morning on the upper reaches. Hakuba's an easy drive from Suwa.

What are you doing this weekend?

  3. If you wanted to twiddle Nagano Prefecture around evenly, you'd put a big pin in the middle of Lake Suwa. The hell where Suwa is is in the middle of Nagano, and a good deal less hellish than where you live calvin.

Checked out your link ol' son, and you see that big swathe of cloud hanging over that ther' mountain? Guess what's going on underneath that. (Hint: I said it was snowing in Suwa this morning.) Nice and warm in Tokyo is it?

Hi rache! I'm not Rod, I'm Liar. Who are you? Have we met? My 'not sure if I quite want to blow my cover yet' email is poxfroth@yahoo.com. Drop me a line!

  4. This may seem like flame attractant (hey, that Ocean11 ain't got no friends!) but I can't see the point of going snowboarding in a herd. Whenever there's a discussion about stepins versus straps, there's always a comment arguing against stepins that goes "but you've got to wait for your buds anyway". Why? What's the advantage of having 'buds' who keep you hanging around, want your attention, ride across the back of your board, fall in a heap in front of you and other oafish behaviour?

There's nothing better than getting away from everybody and just listening to the swish of the board and the birdsong.

OK, get out your gasoline now, you wildebeest!

(BTW, can anybody tell me how to make the little snarling red face - I love that one!)

  5. I don't even know why I'm bothering answering this...guess I'm just interested in the challenge.

You may be able to make it up to somewhere in Hyogo or Shiga.

Do you read and write Japanese? If you do, I may be able to find you a Japan Railways site where you can check the timetables online to see if you can actually make it.

Or if you want to rentacar, you can easily make it.

Depends on your budget. Anyways, it's gonna cost ya.

    Let me know...
