    just don't do so!!!!!

if you understood the technique of riding forward and use the same technique for one week riding switch, after that week you will ride better swich as when you turn your bindings to the opposite side for one week and turn them again to the usual position!!

to the duckfoot thing, if it is the real ultimat best stance you could get on your board, why rides just a minority of the pro boarders in the whole world such a style???
  2. ok, just leave the finger from change the binding position! especially from goofy to regular or otherways!

or have you ever saw someone change the position after the landing of a 180.....??

i edited my last post, you should be able now, to see wich feet i mean!

the turn is just one simply turn, so if the hill was on your backside it is now on your front.

  3. hello powpow,

if you feel confortable with your stance just leve it like this!!!

the problem about fakie or switch riding is that you almost have to learn snowboarding from the begining again.

just start on a little steeper slope. (you should allready know how difficult it is to ride, even forward, on a flat way with low speed)

so go to an "easy to ride for you" slope and stand still.

when you are ready to start (fall) give your wight on the back feet (what is now your front feet, cause you are riding backwards) and turn your head and shoulders in the direction of the turn.

(especially on the backside turn is that a shitty feeling cause you can't turn your body as much as when you rinding forward.)

your board will now follow your body.

now is the hardest part of the turn, cause your bord get a little faster. many beginner get now in panic, loose control and take the textil emergency break.

so just keep cool and hold your shoulders in the turns direction and the wight on your front feet! (wich is usually your back feet, but, cause you riding switch, your front feet)

after you finished the turn give your wight a little on the back feet and go a little in the knees, so your board will slide and stop the rest of the turn!

*turn your body gently, if you turn too slow, your board will stay too long in the direct fall line of the hill and you will be faster as you wish!

*try it first with the short board, if you try it with your long one, is it much more possible that the edge of your board will hang in the snow and that will be pain in the ass!

hope to help ya! and i hope someone understood the back and front foot thing...

  4. fuuuuuck

    what a crazy time!!??

all the shit who hapends the last few months on the earth!!!

all the things arround 11. september, i've got a car crash, my best friends mother died, the bloddy attack in zug (switzerland), the swissair debacle, the st. gothard tunnel inferno, MY FAVORITE BAR IN TOKYO (UNDERLINE, SHIBUYA) GOT CLOSED (all the people there was kind of my "tokyo family") AND NOW THE DBD CLUB TOO!!!

    what will hapends next???

a super hot winter in europe????

i hope this crazy time getting over soon!!!!

  5. just wanted to know what the backcountry is like in niseko,

    ehm, should we say busy!?

    is it easily accessible?

most of the area is too easy to access! so that will be tracked out after 2 days or so, if you can find some local friends you will see some other verry nice spots!

the biggest problems for riding backcountry in niseko is that many of the runs end with a (long) walk trough the snow or your run ends in pretty flat area!

What is the night life like in niseko as well?

sometimes fun sometimes boring! one of the best places in hirafu is pow-pow but if you make some local fiends you might can join some nice privat parties!

  6. i was last year at the end of november in marunuma kogen (i'm not shure about the name).

if you like to wait 30 minutes to take a crappy lift for 3 minutes and ride down a 30 meter wide and 300 meter long fake snow slope in the middle of green fields, in 30 seconds, then you should try it!!!!!!!!

this is not a joke! (if i have a good day, i will scan a picture about that day)

but better is, just to wait untill the real snow is deep enough to ride it!

  7. check the resort and you will see ;-)

it was more burton town a few years ago (a japanese friend told me that) but there is still a burton rental shop, a burton snowboard school, a burton shop and (almost) everyone rides burton there.... (not just the board, there are people who wear burton socks, underwear, t shirts, sweater boots, pants, jackets, caps and cloves! plus they have all the little things like keyholders wallets and those little bands for the handyphone....

BUT I HAVE REAL GOOD FRIENDS IN OZE TOKURA !!!

    cool people out there

so the travelling expenses might not be as expensive as in tokyo. i may be wrong.

you are wrong! traveling in japan is expensiv, everywhere! but check about the japan railpass (you have to buy it outside of japan!)

also... i am looking for someone, or some group that i can tag along with. see my japanese is hopeless, i have pretty much unlearnt all the japanese i learned during high school.

don't mind, you will come arround with some real basic japanese and english! it is more fun and you will meet much more new people when you travel by yourself than traveling in a group!

do they allow you to rent JUST the board? see i have my own boots and bindings. or is it the case of all or nothing?

i guess it will be little chaeper, if you rent a board with binding. but i don't think that they will discount the price just because you bring your own bindings.
why don't you buy a board in taiwan?

but, a snowboarder who can't go snowboarding with a hangover is not a real HC boarder!!!
  11. ok that helps!

well, if you don't care to meet many mates from your country is it worth to go to niseko. (you might get a little harder in touch with japanese people there)

if you go for party in ski areas (such as apres-ski)you better come to switzerland. but compared to the rest of the japanese ski areas is the party life pretty nice in hirafu.

if you catch the right week is the powder there one of the best! (number 3 in my ranking)

japan is expensiv! but you can ask people who depart earlier for theyr tickets

and there is also a kind of a coupon system where you bring a discount card and you get a one day ticket and a voucher for a lunch.

(there is a hotel on the slope who accept the voucher for a "all you can eat" lunch. but you have to put off your boots and wear the hotel's own slippers!

  12. hey, the highwaytaxes and the trafficjams are the problem!!!

i was snowboarding with some tokyo mates last year.

we had to start arround 2 or 3 in the morning, drive just trafficjams, and paid alot for highway taxes, arrived , took a litle sleep, and get up on the hill for the first lift. at lunch time everybody crashed...

i think its as much expensiv as taking the shinkansen, but more stressful!

it might be a little less expensiv when you have a van and you could sleep in your own car.

well anyway enjoy riding a car in japan and have a nice winter!
