Steve is not my personal favourite, but I give a lot of credit for having the guts to get out there and show people what his passions are, and to spread the word around the world.
If he can get people to be a little greener, and make our planet last a little longer (and bring the snow line back down the hills a little) then I am all for him.

A cracked or broken rib takes up to 6 weeks to heal. It actually takes a fair bit to crack a rib ie: 85kg of snowboarder @ 25kph onto pack ice.
It is more likely that you have tweaked a muscle, which shgould settle down in a few day, but up to a week.

I'd suggest that if your instructor starts in on this, you tell him to hurry up and get to the bit about ducking ropes safely.
Particularly:
1) Be able to stop and avoid other people or objects.
2) Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or run or are not visible from above.
3) When entering a trail or run or starting downhill, look uphill and give way to others.
4) Avoid people ahead of you - they have right of way.
A hell of a lot of incidents could be avoided if these 4 rules were stuck to. -

They have some mighty technical discussions on that Oz site. Is that because the snow's so crap there I wonder?
You found technical discussions?
There are some good discussions about, but then we get good snow sometimes( just the last couple of years have been rubbish). We make do with what we get, and enjoy it too.
There is no such thing as bad snow -

Can't actually speak them, but do know useful phrases in:
Italian - from working in an Italian restaurant
Magyar - from having a Hungarian girlfriend
French - from learning French in year 1 & 2 at school
Gaelic - from being Scottish

I have seen some that were distibuted by CUB the brewers, and there are licenced copies.
Sned me an email and I'll send ya something.

It is a beautiful country. OK, so I'm biased.
Look for posts by doc mike or doctor mike. He is a resident medico at Aviemore. His site should give you some links to Scottish ski sites and conditions.

Have a read through this thread on ski.com.au
bawbawbel is our resident pixie, but has a lot of good advise when you cut through it all.

Rules for competency on a board:
#1, Define competent. Compared to a 1st dayer I’m competent, compared to Danny Kass I suck. Always aim one level higher than you want to be.
#2, get into the gym, and start doing squats and lunges, build up those legs.
#3, it will get easier
#4, take lessons, make sure they teach you the Alpine Code
#5 obey it
#6 see my sig

I snowboard, my last girlfriend skied, we did runs together, no problems.
One big happy family as far as I'm concerned.

Do you mean a genuine one or just one from a sticker shop?
If a sticker shop one will do I can provide for you. Just email me you postal address. I'll send you a few other cool stickers too.

I am not sure if I would go to a boarder only resort.
< rant mode="on" >
In .au, we have a lot of testosterone driven little prats that I don't really want to be near on a slope.
As has been said, a lot of boarders are self-taught or have been taught by self-taught friends, so they don't learn the Alpine code (not that I recall it being over-emphasised in ski-school anyway), and they have no respect for anyone else. I have had to "spray" a bunch of snowboarders who were throwing snowballs at people in the lift line.
How does their behaviour help snowboarding become an accepted sport?

Do you have these problems in .jp?
-
I read last year about how some .jp companies were promoting their stuff, saying that Japaneses snow is different to all other snow, so you need to have "specially designed equipment" that would work on Japanese snow. I see this "Japan Fit" as just another way of keeping the money in the country.
I use Smith goggles, because the colour of theirs lense suits my sight. A friend borrowed a pair and couldn't see properly, but I am colour blind so that possibly makes a difference.
Like boots and pants, try as many different ones as you can, check all the different colour lense and get what YOU like, not what some advertisment tells you you like.

Just finished my 3rd season on a board. Had 7 seasons as a child, but only snowball fights and toboggans.

When you can do it, you will go
I can now do a carved run down a blue run fakie.
The smile didn't leave my face for about 2 days after I nailed that.

played bass in a couple of bands, but also play guitar, and can drum, but only badly.

Used to surf and skateboard.
Looking at getting a new skateboard this summer, but also do indoor rock-climbing when I can

deebee, good to hear that, despite the pain and the transport, that you seemed to enjoy your first time out on a board.
I find that trying to slide with the board flat tends to lead me into stacks, I prefer to keep an edge as often as possible.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the season.

Don't be shy echi, let us see more.
Your hairs looks very nice, we just need to see your face.

Davo, not a big problem for me yet, but Mon Padre is worrying. He keeps pretty fit, but it doesn't help him even though it is only mild. He is now far more prone to colds and chest infections. The good thing is that he is 74, so hopefully age will catch upwith him before the emphysema becomes a real problem.
I use these things as warning to others.
I really cannot stand to see pretty girls smoking, it does absolutely nothing for me, and I hate to think what it is doing for them inside.

deebee, hmm, never thought a beer sticker would be so hard to find.
Currently hoping that the guy at CUB special operations wasn't joshin' me when he said he'd get a couple in the mail to me. Will see by Tuesday.
