  1. Mine would have to be the Johnathons restuarant I had to camp in one night when I left the keys for my apartment at work by mistake. What a dive that was. Staff not too freindly between the hours of 2 and 6am especially when you order only the bottomless cup of coffee.

You can only imagine how happy I was to go to work that day. I must admit I have never had this feeling again since.

  2. Okay, I have spent a good part of today trying to track down info on a hotel in the Yuzawa area on the net.

As you may have guessed I have been very unsuccessful.

Here's what I know about the place:

    1. It is on the Kanetsu Expy side of Echigo-Yuzawa stn.

    2. It is just off one of the feeder roads leading to the road that will take you to Kagura, Naeba from Yuzawa.

    3. It is a rather large tawny coloured building with a big carpark out the front and not connected to a resort.

    4. It has what appears to be a dining room or a pool or something facing the feeder road along its front.

    5. It is relatively new. ie. 5 years or so.

    6. It looks really nice when driving past day or night.

    7. I have no idea if it is a hotel or a public facility.

Would apprecaite any info if the above description jogs anyones memory.

    Thanx all.

    Heil to the community!

  3. Avoid Kanpachi as much as possible and it shouldn't take you long to get outta the city. 6am on Kanpachi is a bugger for trucks and cars heading out to Nagano so you may wanna get through here as quick as possible or that 10K stretch from the Shutoko to the Kanetsu IC will take over 30 mins alone. Particualry if the tunnel works are still hapening.

If you live on the other side of Tokyo you do also have the option of taking the Shutoko round the other way up past Saitama to come back on the Kanetsu without going on any normal roads.

Another area to watch for is the Yuzawa tunnel and the exit on the other side.

If you can see that there is a jam through the tunnel (watch the signs on the Kanetsu, get off at the exit (sorry forget the name) just before it and take the valley road over which will bring you out at Naeba.

  4. Staying in NZ would be the easiset way to communicate with NZ ;\)

You can pretty much plug in anywhere here if you have a world wide provider like....actually none come to mind.

If you are only coming on holiday find the nearest net cafe and hook in there.

If you laptop has wireless capabilities and you have a credit card you can use the WiFi connections and services in most of the big name cafes here in Tokyo.

You will find that broadband be much cheaper here and better quality than back home.
