  1. Finally someone who actually answered the question. A daily user of PC and Mac.

Well done Dims. You are the only qualified person so far to make a judgement in my opinion.

Ocean I do respect your opinion and enjoy your comments etc, but you are not a current daily user so your views being historical are not relevant. Take OSX for a test drive first then please do offer your comments.

As for Recall on batteries, you are talking about a hardware issue where as I thought the topic at hand was on the software???....

  2. Hold off on buying any Mac until at least the end of this Month. In particular the iMac.

With the release of the Tiger slated for sometime this month there is talk of a beefed up iMac being released also to bring it up to speed for use with Tiger. (The current iMac will not be a problem, just maybe a little slower with the different video required for optimal Tiger performance.)

As for the TV thingy there, I am to bgin research myself.

I guess if you got a Mac Mini and used your TV as your puter screen then you could in effect say that yes you can watch TV on a Mac ;\)

  3. If it is being used with the Livedoor matter then it is a dig at Horie to confirm with the ways of traditional Business J-land.

He is not playing the game as a conformist is and the guys at the Fuji and others can't handle it cuase none of them are experts nor do they know who to approach for expert advice.

Basically they are throwing all their toys out of the sandpit in a huff cause they are losing to a younger guy who should be conforming to society as they have for the last 40years of their careers.

The "Otona no Chie" is a mere framework for which they are trying to shame him. However, it is probably having a reverse effect.

  4. On a quick stock take I have the:

    Swiss Champ

    Explorer

    Escort

Nomad (Except mine has a serated knife with lock)

I am not a knife crazy person, just I either forget to take them on explorations with me and so I end up getting another.

I carry the Escort with me all the time on my keys and has come in so handy. A legacy from my pipe smoking grandfather I guess. He used to have a similar knife that he used for cleaning out the tabacco from his pipe.

The Swiss Champ is the ultimate. Not a situation it can't handle.

I have to agree with miteyak on the sharpness issue. My Explorer, which I have had for over 10+ years now can't even cut a piece of paper or slice through masking tape. It's probably not called the Explorer, but the variety set up is the same so possibly the predecessor.

All real men have SAKs. \:D

  5. Stepchild, if my memory is correct I do beleive that Iwappara have the only superpipe in the Yuzawa area. I haven't been in a while, but I do remember that the Pipe was lift accessed in that there was a double chair running up the side of it for the length of it. Don't recall seeing any other park features though.

If I am wrong on the pipe being the only one in Yuzawa, please someone do correct me.

  6. I have had JLPT and JETRO Level 1, Oral A, for the past 5 years and neither my current employer nor any future ones seem to give a toss.

If you go to an interview anyway things pretty much speak for themselves right?

I don't think here in Japan these make much difference, but if you want to join a J company overseas then you should come up top candidate with either of these plus your usual abilities.

Most of getting both to these certifications is about personal satisfaction and testing onesself after completion of formal education. And perhaps brag rights...

  7. Yeah pretty much so. Except I only speak da 標準語 & I add a few English sperlatives in between some of the J words for better effect.

Oh and at 3.13% increase you have got to be kidding! I am defintely not that cheap! (Unless the Buchou is hot female in her ealry 20's and has a little more extracurricular acitivites to offer.) \:D

  8. Sorry, didn't mean to down the spirits...

Really the basics aren't too much different to the JLPT and if you think you did well, then you won't have that much trouble.

You might just surprise yourself at how much you already know but didn't realise it.

  9. You can prepare for the Oral by reading business reports etc in J and familarising yourself with the business Jargon. This of course goes for the main part of the test also.

I would highly recommend spending sometime in meetings to get the flow of how J business meetings go. This will give you an understanding of the correct catch ball type conversation that will be tested on.

In my test I had a role play on an HR issue; I was to be transferred out of the office to a subsidy and I had to reject due to family reasons. Bearing in mind that this does not really happen in J companies where they say, you go. The second role play was a phone conversation.

In both situations I had to use the formal languages appropriate to the situations.

I was at a bit of an advantage cause the uni I went to in NZ used to test us Orally (smirk) every Friday using impromptu situations. Great course this was.

Most of all just practice your formal styles, both humble and honourable, and learn the jargon and you will have no troubles.

Oh and watch out for numbers. In business using figures decimaled to the thousand or million is really common. Practice these cause they were in both the Aural and the Reading test.

  10. Okay, it's flu season  and oh-my-god-stop-the-world record hayfever " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> season(supposedly?!), neither of which I am happy to say that I suffer from at present, so this brings me to the Mask poll.

How many of you admit to wearing one?

Come on, don't be afraid to admit it! you know you want too!
