Well, yes.
We just got a mail in which someone branded the whole of SnowJapan as "not credible" and "a bit of a joke" because of this issue. Nice way to start the day....
-
Like we said in the report, apologies for the confusion on this.
-
We plan to put the official Hirafu numbers on there - which are presumably on-piste.
The number that is followed by (at top) is the snow depth at top.
The number that is followed by (at base) is the snow depth at base.

We would love to see them, Mamabear.
Any snow vids are most welcome and a wide range of types of videos can only be a good thing.
Lots of people don't realise that the Forums part of this site and that community represents only a small section of the traffic and people viewing SnowJapan in general - possibly less than 10%. Not everyone is "hardcore" and as with the resort photos, reviews and other areas of the site - the more the better!
-
Mamabear, thanks for the suggestions.
While we of course hope that a competition might encourage more people to upload videos, we would like to think that people will be uploading them anyway regardless of a competition or not. Hope so!
We hope to get lots of vids up there and for it to become a really good collection of Japan related vids... that's why we started it, we'll just have to see how it turns out!
Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry forgot the poll!
(Oops of course in the poll I mean "don't HAVE a video camera" for the 3rd answer)

OK, we are currently putting together a video competition for this season on our new video site and wanted to ask for some feedback and help.
We are going to be doing our best to put together some cool prizes but hope that this will be as much about fun as trying to win them!
First of all, we want some categories. We want to have a number of competition categories, for example:
-- Best resort vid
-- Best backcountry vid
-- Best silly vid
-- Best powder vid
Your ideas? Please post them on here!
Also, we're interested to get a bit of feedback about if people on here actually intend to take any vid clips and upload them this season. Of course, not everyone has a camera, but some feedback will be interesting and will also help us in our attempts to get those prizes.
Videos from past seasons are most welcome on the site (and may well be valid for this competition), so if you already have any Japan ski/snowboard/snow/winter sports videos from before this season, please do feel free to upload them up there.
Thank you for your help!
(In case you didn't know, even if you are a member of the Forums you will need to register a new account over at the .tv site - but it is really simple. Thanks).

We have updated the Niseko Now page, and are making a few changed to avoid further confusion. Sorry for the confusion the last few days.
Thanks
-
The page was totally broken up with a huuuge horizontal scroll bar and for many people it looked like the Forums was "broken". If that makes sense.
-
Only just noticed this. (Someone should have given us a shout).
I don't know the answer myself right now -- let me look into this....
-
About the same as it did on the first post in this thread actually....
-
Thanks for the offer tsondaboy - actually I'll be in Tokyo from Friday so not this weekend, but hopefully another!

We've made it so all the admin/mods get automatic links when you post their names (SJ#1, etc). Hopefully make it easier for people to contact us if need be.
Also, if you type in any of the Now page names, they now automatically link up to the Now pages without you needing to find the link.
For example, just type in "Niseko" and "Now" and it will turn into a link to that page on SJ. Try it!
Niseko Now
Furano Now
Yuzawa Now
Naeba Now
Minakami Now
Myoko Now
Hakuba Now
Shiga Kogen Now
Nozawa Now
-
Now, if you type in Yuzawa Now or YuzawaNow or Niseko Now or NisekoNow on the Forums, it will automatically link up to those daily reporting pages (so no need to find the links, just type in the name)

Yes you're right...
Here it is:

neversummer, well here is the official policy.
We just don't wish threads to become link-fests.
Thanks

Only for snow depth -- we can't go out and make our own measurements every morning. That's why we usually mention how many new cm there has been at town level and on tops of cars etc, to give people a real idea of what is happening.
Everything else is from observations and most definitely not just what resorts report.
It is very important to us that our reports tell it "like it is" - the good and the bad.
We have sometimes even got strong complaints from, been threatened by and had rather heated discussions with certain resorts who didn't like us being so truthful when things were not good... but we will continue to do that and they can just learn to live with it.
It felt quite strange being asked by a company to refrain from posting the reality and in it's place post lies on our site. They really seemed to think that they were in the right. It's not as if we were saying incorrect things either - just the reality.
(Some resorts don't like our new Rankings section either....)

Thank you.
The summary on the calendar:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/nowcalendar.php
..has actually has been there since last season. We thought that it would be a good idea to post daily links to each daily summary on the Forums and hopefully once that builds up into some volume it will become another good way for people to easily find the info they are looking for.

Thank you very much, Mamabear. Your comments are appreciated.
I think I will have that big glass of alcoholic stuff right now.
Have a good weekend.
-
skidaisuki - ok, thank you for explaining.
-
Quote:bottom line, everyone will critique a website, so matter no matter what you do, someone is going to give you crap.
Yes we can vouch for that!
Offer them free holidays and some people will still give you crap!
haha
-
skidaisuki, I believe that you are the one who has emailed us about this once or twice. (Correct me if I am wrong).
If you do not like our reporting pages, please just don't read them. At least please do not come on here and make fun of them in public... on our website!
They may not be perfect, but I think we have the right to be understandably not keen on people being over-critical and sarcastic about small non-factual details when we know the huge amount of effort, resources and committment that goes into planning and posting them each and every single day for up to 5-6 months a year. Not to mention the fact that you are reading them for free.
Thank you.
