Quote:I think SJ#1 (correct me if I'm wrong) did point out that those hired to do marketing for resorts often have no qualifications or experience.
Yes he said that Go Native, and it is true though I am not personally involved in that kind of thing. He should know, I'd guess that he probably knows more (managers at) Japanese ski resorts than any other gaijin and he has a very positive relationships with quite a lot of Japanese ski resorts and actively gets involved in resort associations etc. The fact that he started this site and continues to develop it so actively every year and try to do what he (or "SJ") can do to open up Japan winter sports to the outside world says a lot. -
Will be looking forward to it Mamabear!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

Thats right! Thanks for posting
If you associate "tags" with the video (like where it is etc) it will be linked up well within the tv site. (For example some vids have tags like "hokkaido niseko snowboard powder" etc. Let us know if you want help with doing that.
-
Yes you can! The code is shown on each video page on the right hand side ("SnowJapanForums Tag") in the right hand Video Information column

Great pics as always
(Bushpig, if you do try and post a vid and come across any issues, please contact us and we'll help! Thanks)

I'm not exactly sure tsondaboy (who took the pic!)

thursday, personally I don't know but if you say "takyubin" to any staff at the airport they will point you in the right direction within seconds.
-
Great. How was the snow holding out up there tsondaboy? Looks decent.

They are everywhere. (Well, not quite EVERYWHERE. But nearly).
At Shin-Chitose, there is parcel delivery services by Yamato Transport, Nippon Express, Sagawa Express, Sagawa Global Logistics and the Japanese Postal Service (Yu-Pack).
-
They'll be happy to take it all off you! I use it every time I come back to Japan from overseas. You should be able to find it easily but if you need to ask the word is "takyubin".
Will you be taking more vid? Really like your first one up there
-
I think any of the major takyubin delivery companies will be fine. They are waiting for you when you come out of arrivals and offer pretty much the same services and costs, they'll get your bags delivered "next day".

OK things should be pretty much back to normal now both on the forums and the site. In fact we have taken the opportunity to make a few adjustments that optimize the database server, so things should be improved.
Over the last 24 hours there has been over three times the amount of normal traffic to the site/forums - as far as we can currently tell this is only partly due to a few overseas promotional things we have been doing. We're still looking into other reasons for the rather unexpectedly high traffic today which put a large load on the server.
Thanks and sorry for the disruption today.

Just to update this. From time to time we might be making some changes that make the Who's Online info and other data appear incorrect.... just temporary as we continue working on this.
Thanks.

Ohana is a very small resort.
The easiest resort to get to time wise is probably Gala Yuzawa (that is the resort that has a bullet train station).
It might be a good idea to look at the resort reviews for the resorts in those areas:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/voice/review.php
If you look at this page, you'll find reviews, journals and photos for resorts in the area:

Best of luck

Tubby Beaver.
We have been experiencing some server issues today due to a very heavy (unexpected) increase in traffic.
There are 3 of us working here trying to solve the issues we are faced with.
Turning the chat box off is one of the things we are doing to help reduce load on the server as we try to work out & understand what is happening.
Extremely sorry, but solving the problems that we are facing whilst keeping the site online is our primary concern.
-
We were wanting to put another Niseko report up this afternoon but are encountering a few technical problems which are preventing us from doing that, so it is going to have to wait until tomorrow morning.
Sounds like there is a lot of snow falling up there though.
-
Maintenance as in the chat box is undergoing some maintenance.

By the way, your avatar isn't appearing CB....

Please do Ewok2. (Are you having problems with that?) If you are experiencing any problems with our uploading please do let us know.

Great photos Bushpig, thanks for posting.
Hope to see lots more.

Well you certainly should not be getting "some green map without names".
Currently the names of main roads, expressways, ICs, ski resorts, train lines & stations are shown on these scale maps.
In the near future, the location of the hotels found on this site will also be shown on the maps - and we also have other plans for them. We are working on it.
-
Samui - this might not be in time to help you, but in the near future the location of all of the hotel listings on SnowJapan will be put on our new maps:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/japan-ski-town-maps/index.html
(We were hoping for this to be done earlier, but workloads got the better of us..)

There is a lot of choice on here:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/hakuba-guide/hakuba-places-to-stay.html
I would mention my favourite place but it would create a lot of fuss and be against those nasty rules.
Good luck.

As I said yesterday, please take your arguments off these Forums.
However, it seems my request was ignored as I have just had to delete 2 more argumentative posts.
The argument here ends now.
If one more post appears along those lines, we will take away the posting rights of that member.
We don't want to do that - please don't make us.
Empty lifts (and - how long can they keep moving?)
in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry

I just thought this might be of interest. This is Nunoba in central Yuzawa, 20 minutes ago - both of those lifts were moving. (I think it must be lunchtime with all those skis stacked up there!) A quick drive around and it was similar at a few other places as well...
