  1. Regarding the filter, I think we have just a few words in there. That's all. It hasn't been touched for many years. There wasn't much call for us taking that filter off when the subject came up last week and I asked - in fact there was none. And as I said last week, we don't particularly want to encourage such language on here, I think the Forums work better because of the lack of it.

  2. Look, I know these are often posted with the best of intentions (though sometimes with a rather different agenda), but this isn't a classified listing links thread.

And please, just because one person posts a commercial link does not mean that it is suddenly a 'well if he can I can' free-for-all.

    Thank you.

[To make this situation clearer to everyone, I have deleted two posts within 10 minutes that were basically 'we do rental too' advertisements.]

  3. Hi Alx and welcome to the Forums. friend

As you might expect there is a seasonal thing going on and there is more traffic just before and during the winter months than the rest of the year. But there's also a large and growing number of people who visit throughout the year which increases every year.

It seems like firstimer posted once with a few questions and that was in October last year, before last season. Long-time regulars generally seem to appreciate people coming back with a thank you or more comments after they have spend their own time kindly answering those newscomers questions. My guess is that is what Mamabear was referring to.

As the temperatures continue to drop here in Japan, our reports are going to start appearing in the run up to the 09/10 season.

Once again for the coming 09/10 season there will be exclusive daily reports on SnowJapan. In the coming weeks - every now and again - some of the Now! pages will be updated with info on how the weather is cooling down and preparations for the season are going. So keep your eye on the pages for updates. They will be irregular at first, but increase in frequency as we approach the winter season.

In early October we will be bringing you some news of a few changes to the site that are on their way.

If you are logged in to the member section of the main site, you can sign up to receive automatic email updates whenever any of the pages are updated.

  8. Off topic - that word censor thing is/was there for a reason, so spaces don't really get round that reason. There's only a couple of words in there and we haven't touched that setting for quite a few years - perhaps it is time to get rid of that? What do you think?

Having said that we don't want to encourage the Forums to become plastered with it all over the place.

On topic - yes there are certainly a few people that I can think of off-hand that I very much don't like dealing with!

Welcome to the first Giveaway/Competition of the 09/10 season. It's still very early of course with months to go before the season gets underway, but we have a lot to fit in.

For this first one, something a bit different.... your chance to leave your mark on a restaurant in Hakuba!

Here's what the competition is all about:

    Quote:
Help us find a name for the restaurant and bar at the Double Black - White Horse Hotel in Hakuba. The restaurant serves up a modern western style menu with a Japanese influence at a reasonable price. It has seating for 44 people and kids are welcome and well catered for. Along with a large timber bar and comfortable couch and tub chairs the area has a high vaulted ceiling with a huge feature BBQ. A great range of international wines, beers and top shelf spirits are on offer along with Illy coffee served throughout the day. Opening hours at the bar are 5pm until 11pm and the restaurant 6pm until 9pm everyday of the winter season.

So, put on the thinking caps and think of a good name for the restaurant and then go to the page below to enter and your chance to win.

    WHAT IS THE PRIZE:

Two nights accommodation at the Double Black - White Horse Hotel for 2 including breakfast each morning, a 3 course dinner for two in the newly named restaurant with a bottle of wine, free Hakuba shuttle service to all ten of the ski resorts in the valley and Hakuba Station transfers.

The prize is NON-TRANSFERABLE (ie. only the winner can use them).

    GIVEAWAY PERIOD:

    Friday 11th September - Thursday 1st October 2009

    HOW TO ENTER:

Please note that you need to be logged into SJ Insider to be able to enter the giveaway. To register, click here.

Many thanks to White Horse Hotels for co-operating with us in this Competition.

    Good luck to you all!

Look out for weekly giveaways on SnowJapan as the 09/10 season gets underway.

  10. Hi there hira-rifu-rafu

Thank you for the offer. You aren't able to add to the Now pages themselves, but you are of course welcome to post comments here on the Forums.

But it is a good idea and hopefully we might get something up there soon, just to give people a bit of an update.

I know how people like to read these things, even if it's just talking about the weather getting cooler!

Actually, you should see some of the Now pages gearing up over the next few weeks and months with the occasional report every now and again.

Of course the snow season is still a while away but once we get into the season it will be back to the daily updates.

We have some more related news coming in early October as well.

    friend

Whether you do that, or if you just want to add a photo that you already have somewhere online, this is how to get the photo showing on the forums - just put

    >

after it. No spaces. Photos need to be .jpg or .gif format.

    Hope that helps.
