  1. Guy at Kiroro was riding with 5 other people when he fell down a hole about 3~4meters deep. Was down there 2 days upto his knees in water. No bag. No food. No nothing. Took a search party of 80 people (including the self-defense force) to find him. Barely conscious. Bad hyperthermia. It got down to -10 during the night.

This is according to a Hokkaido news website

  2. yesterday at Kokusai and saturday at Rusutsu.

probably my best powder day of the season on Sat....30cm's untouched powder on friday (mtn closed due to high winds) then 60cm's on saturday!!

    Awesome Sapporo

mate where is the 1st 3 runs?

    Thanks!

The first 3 were between Steamboat B and Heavenly Canyon. I won't say exactly where for obvious reasons!!

  3. South is prob slightly closer to the shops and restaurants. North a little further away (but I think u don't get to decide which you're in!) never stayed at the tower but looks expensive and a real trek from the main building. Definately don't stay at the Highland hotel!!! (Great for cheap people like me, not so great for a family wanting any kind of comfort!)

  4. Are the off piste lines good at Kokusai? I've never been…….we should do a couple of Teine/Kokusai swapsie-sesh's!! If you show me yours, I'll show you mines!

The off-piste stuff is pretty good at Kokusai. Be glad to show you mine, so long as you show me yours!! Got kinda put off by Teine when i went a couple seasons ago and it was totally iced out! About time i gave it another chance. Free Sat after 11am, could go for an afternoon session maybe.
  5. Glad u were ok in the end! It pays to go with a buddy when veering off course...saying that, I go by myself most of the time too.

People were getting a little over-excited at Kokusai yesterday too. Out over the back of the mountain was very busy. Saw one guy at the start of the traverse back to the gondola that had hurt his leg and was surrounded by about 15 people all stood around him. Thankfully there was a gaijin about to give him some painkillers and water, none of these guys was wearing a backpack or had taken anything with them despite being quite far from the resort.

Also had to rescue some Japanese guy in the same spot and guide him out over the river and up the wall hike out. He had gone over the back with no clue of where he was going and gone by himself on a crappy rental board!!

  6. Rusutsu was amazing today!!!

Had to wait a little while for the lifts to start up.....but once they did!!!

Knee ~ waist deep in spots. Bad wind on Isola and some real hard packed snow but the Heavenly and Steamboat areas were insane!! Best runs of my season so far!

Still snowing now as we're leaving.....tomorrow will be another unbelievable day!!!

Just out of curiosity, what time did the lifts get going, I was umming and arring about going today and stupidly decided not to...

But I will be there tomorrow...

Don't think u were the only one umming and arring Seemore. Apart from the initial endless lines to get on the gondola, it was relatively deserted. Hardly saw anyother riders!

    Have fun tomorrow!

    Kokusai for me.

  7. The gondola up to the top of East mtn started around 9:40. They were announcing that Isola was closed but we headed over that way anyway at around 10:30 and all the lifts were up and running (the pair lift back to the gondola station at East mtn was still shut at 1:40, they said it was due to open at sometime soon, but we didn't wait and got the other pair lift instead.

Was VERY windy and poor vis at the top of Isola. Must be plenty still left for u tomorrow!!
