I have also had some great days at Kagura over the years. It is a big resort with a lot of variety. I always drive there so I'm not sure about the bus situation, but I'm pretty sure a number of members of this site go there by bus from a station on the Joetsu Shinkansen.

If the weather is good I would consider Tenjindaira in Minakami. Every time I go there on a sunny day I am blown away by the views. You can get to Minakami station at 8:49 if you leave Utsunomiya at 5:16. This is not by Shinkansen and is 2,940 yen. From there you would have to take a bus. If you leave at 4:42 by Shinkansen you can get to Doai station, which is very close to the resort, at 8:33. This trip is 6,390 yen. A full day ticket is 3,500 yen and a half day (from 12) is 2,500 yen.
These pics from Muikabochi tell the story pretty well. There is a lot of wide open terrain at Tenjin and a very long run with lots of walls, but I don't know how much park stuff they will have set up.

What kind of resort are you looking for? / What kind of boarding do you like to do?

How much of a ride are you from Kawaba, Gunma Boarder? 30 minutes or so?
I'm about 25 minutes from Kawaba if there is no ice and no traffic, It usually takes me 30 to 45 minutes to get to the parking lot from my house.

Eiichigo red. I love amber ales and it is a good one. Their organic beer is also really good. Infact I like almost everything they make. Man in Japan mentioned why I say "almost", their new chocolate beer is barley drinkable for me.

Overall where I live (around Numata). less

yeah, i was just wondering if it was some weird, fall on the mountains but not on the valley floor type of phenomenon. Would you welcome that, Muika? Still the same amount on the mountains but less around town.....so less you have to shovel etc or do yo want it full on in town as well?
It actually might be a fall in the mountains but to the valley thing because Minakami city has almost nothing and Tenjindaira has a ton. Where I live didn't get snow for a week, but I could see it snowing everyday at Kawaba

I asked a similar question recently and everyone said I should go to Nozawa Onsen. Here's the link to the thread. It might be worth a read.

These pics from Muikabochi tell the story pretty well. My one concern is that it might not be the most begginer friendly resort, but there is one good wide open begginer run and a really long narrow valley run that begginers can do.

I am enjoying living in the promise land

Kagura?
It is in fact Kagura. I was about to get on here and name all the mountains in the picture as a hint, but you got it first. It is above the highest chair at Kagura that opens in late March. The view is amazing. I could see the North Alps, Mt. Myoko as well as many of the other major Niigata peaks. Anyway, it's all yours Bag of Crisps

I will take the name of the skijo as the answer.

Not Akakura. A little hint. This picture was taken above a skijo on a ridgeline which is hiked by many snowshoers and backcountry enthusiasts.

Now the question is if I should buy the Mt. six 5 day pass or not.....

Three for Nozawa is pretty convincing. Thank you for the input

I want to take a little vacation this winter break and do some boarding at someplace outside of my usual Gunma and Yuzawa resorts. My wife and baby will also be coming along, so I would like to stay somewhere that is an onsen town as well as interesting enough for someone to not be bored all day waiting for their husband to come off the mountain. The first two places that came to mind for me were Mt. Myoko and Shiga Kogen, but I am open to suggestions as long as the place isn't too far maybe Niigata, Nagano, Gifu, Fukushima, Miyagi or Yamanashi. Any imput would be appreciated. Are there onsen around Hakuba?

lol. you guess that for everything. No not Tsugaike Kogen

No correct answers yet, but some very good guesses.

Does this recent storm change anything? It's dumping in Gunma
Not the driest snow I've ever seen, but will definitely help with the snow pack.
