I have an Evo VII but I want to crash it into a mountain and get the new Subaru BRZ when it comes out. Too bad it is going to be too much money.

I stayed at 2 places on my trips there last year. The first was the Hakuba Luna. Kerry and Mark were great. The place is nice, priced pretty reasonably as we had 3 people staying in 1 room, good breakfasts, great dinner (try the pizza) and the best part was that i was >150 meters to the lift. I plan on staying again if I go back to Happo One.
The second place I stayed was a complete 180. I will have to get the name from my wife's email. The rooms were small and not very clean, the breakfast was terrible. Dinner was expensive (we booked a package deal via Rakuten) and only had the dinner 1 night of the 4 we stayed. It only had 2 redeeming factors: they sold discount lift tickets for a nice difference off the lift booth price and the room was cheap! I think it was somewhere just south of 4000 yen a night (before the extra breakfast charge).

I fly to Sapporo tomorrow..... Is it tomorrow yet?
-
Indeed. My kid uses it to go to Youtube and conjures up the 7 times table for his viewing pleasure at breakfast.
Somehow my 4 year old son finds his way from Transformers to Goukaijyaa: Forze to women giving birth in swimming pools.

Ordered one for my son. It is probably the best all in one learning tool out there for kids.

Hi All,
Went to JPN about two years ago and after getting the snowboard bug I am comin' back! While the missus is with her family for a few weeks I have been allowed to go up north and shred the pow. I had a hard choice of either choosing Hakuba or Niseko but... I went to hakuba last time and with the Qantas oneworld allowing 10,000 yen tickets one way from Fukuoka to Sapporo that make my choice to try Niseko (cost 3 times as much to train it to Hakuba than fly to Sapporo). Haven't worked out accom yet but I hope to stay at a hostel near the main village, maybe at the Kanon.
So my plan is to go up on the 6th of Jan and come back on the 23rd of Jan, so if anyone is keen to board and/or beer I am keen
On a side note, I just bought a GNU Riders choice with forces and I cannnn't wait to try 'em out.
Catch ya round.
I'll be there at the same time. I'm always down for a beer.

I just ordered the HD 2. I hope to get it in a week or 2 and plan to experiment with the automotive stuff I do until I hit the slopes.

Dogfunk is run/owned by the same company/is the same company as Backcountry. They are good people and always eager to help. I bought an Osprey backpack from them and found out that they have a lifetime return policy. I don't know what all that applies to, but that's zappo's quality customer service right there. And they price match other online venders.

Backcountry is a great site.

I have a US based address you could ship to (zip code 96379). Worst comes to worst, you could ship it to me and I could EMS or whatever to AUS. Shipping to you would go from Okinawa.

I'm also flying solo for the first 2 weeks in January. If you decide to hit Niseko, I never turn down a friendly face, good conversation and a tasty beer.

I will be in the Sapporo area from the 23rd of Dec until the 3rd of Jan with my family. Also add me for the Niseko area, 3 - 16 January.
-
Ok so, I changed my plans. I will be in Sapporo with my family from the 23rd of December until the 3rd of January. Then, I will be staying in the Hokkaido area until the (right now) the 18th of January. That might change depending on uncertain business trips.

249 to 9999?!
Right??? The standard version is 249. The black gold, white gold, pink gold, yellow gold and diamond versions are 9999.

Snowboarding. Until last season, it was only about 4 or 5 days total in my life. It was about 10 days last year. Hoping to get closer to 25 this year. I really wish my company had a position up there in mainland Japan. I'd move up in a heartbeat.

This is the Android powered watch/phone made by a company in Italy. I think it looks great but has two major reasons why I will never own one. It isn't water proof and it costs 249 to 9999 Euro's.

Speaking of bands from that region (and I am not sure if they have been mentioned recently), I have been listening to The Naked and Famous non-stop for about a month and a half. They are a great NZ duo. Their song "Young Blood" was used in the new "The Art of Flight" and several other places in the last year or so.
But I really like their song "Frayed."

Norcal... From ZY?
Today the rate at the Lucky LTD type places was just under 76 I think. I transfer money from my credit card to my wife via paypal in Yen so, I get the international rate. I think it basically works out the same with the fees but I earn miles at the same time. Paying all my bills earns me a free roundtrip ticket to mainland every year.

The international rate on xe.com was 79.5 this morning. It's now at 77.9. (To the US dollar)

Doh! Sorry about the spelling error on your name.
That is one of those 'the brain reads what it expects' kind of things!
Me being an Aussie and all ... hardpacked is kinda familiar! Not in Niseko though - there will be none of that. Deep deep light as air powder coming your way
No worries. You're forgiven.. Now, if you were a Canadian, we might have issues.
I will head up there from Tokyo Dec 29 to Jan 27, than again for 9 days in Feb. I am definately keen for a forum meet up in Niseko for sure.
Sounds good. February is still up in the air for me. I might be heading to Thailand for about 3 weeks. Hopefully I can figure out the dates soon and make plans to hit up the slopes before the end of the season.. Speaking of.. When is the end of the season up in the Hokkaido area?
-
I might have some free time around Christmas weekend to head up that way, but I'm not really sure how my schedule is going to pan out. I may only be able to hit the Sapporo-area snow resorts if I only have a day or two open.
I am not too worried about the December trip. My friend and I will be taking our families to that area for the first time for a family vacation trip. That's not to say I wouldn't mind meeting up and grabbing a beer or 3.
I'll be driving up to Hokkaido again this year and will be in and around Sapporo from Dec 23 to the 3rd as well. I ski but don't hold that against me....wait a minute, I'm Canadian.....Is that two strikes?? Cheers.
The skiing I can look past but... Canadian? Sorry.. We cannot be friends.
hardpaRked, closer to the time set up a meet and greet/drinks at one of the local establishments on one of the first nights you are in town - there is bound to be a fair few forum members floating around, and they will likely bring friends - a few beers and a chat and you may well find riding/dining/drinking buddies. Alternatively talk to people on the lifts. There have been times when, despite travelling in a large family or group I have found myself out by myself. Sometimes the tranquility is nice, but all it takes is a few words to a single on the lifts (and there are quite a few) and you end up with a new ride partner for a few hours. Great way to meet interesting people.
I myself wont be there. Depressing much?!
Sounds like a plan. The best part about travelling is meeting new people.

Hello SJ Forums! I'm new (obviously) and wanted to say hello. I have been living on Okinawa for a couple years. Sadly, my Japanese sucks and there is no snow! I tried using my snowboard in the sand but... It just wasn't the same.
I've hit the slopes a couple times in the past, and the bug really bit me last year. I hit up Happo One twice for a couple long weekends with some friends last year. Unfortunately, they have since moved to the US looking for better jobs. Right now, I have two trips planned for this season and I am hoping to make it 3 total. I will be in Sapporo from 23 December until 3 January with my family.. I'd like to sneak off a couple of days and hit the nearby resorts. January 11th-18th I have already booked tickets to Chitose with the plan to hit the areas around Niseko (Grand Hirafu specifically). I am considering another trip in February for another 7 days, if work and money allows it. Is there anyone here that will be in the Niseko area in January of February? I'd don't have a lot of friends that are willing to make the trip from Okinawa to mainland for some snow action and I'd like to meet up with some people while I am there. The only person I found that wanted to go is having surgery and won't be out of his sling until after I return from Niseko in January so, as of right now, I am heading up solo.
Anyway, I hope to meet up with anyone that enjoys drinking beers and watching me bust my ass on the mountain.
