The past Winter it was dodgy in December anywhere south of the Winter Wonderland.
If you want to stay Kyushu, the try Gokase Highland in Miyazaki, but I doubt you'd find much snow there.
Your best bet would be to fly to Sapporo and find a romantic place in the south of the wonderland. Middle of the island was a bit slow this past season too.

In it, Julia Roberts had big hair and a very large mouth, Patrick Bergin had a tache (*), and there was another bloke with a godalmighty mullet of epic 80's proportion. Even though it was released in the early 90s.
(In it, Michael Douglas was not present).
* Roberts also had a fake tache when she was disguised as a bloke.
That was well rubbish wasn't it.
