I am not sure about the building regulation in Japan, they should have raised the structure 1 floor higher so that the basement level is in-line with the slope. This will truly be a ski in & out apartment.
Also I would like to mention, the sulphur steam from our private onsen at the balcony has really eaten away the steel fixture at the external wall. If they keep the onsen running all year long, I would really want to find where the fixing bill will go to.

I will try that next season.....

I've stayed in both Alpen Ridge & The Vale before. In terms of location, both place are great.
Personally I'd prefer the Alpen Ridge because of the locker room & basement entrance is level out to the Ace Family Lift.
On the other hand, the Vale bar is on the level with the slope but the locker room entrance is a couple of stairs down below by the outdoor swimming pool.
After a long day of snowboard & ski and with a very slippery floor maybe an accident is waiting to happen (falling off the stairs).
This is only my personal opinion.

Cableitoh said that it got replaced, no mention of them trying to 'pin it' on his friend.
What it sounds like to me is that not too much went wrong that the rentals guys could have controlled (Vale possibly messing up booking/random equipment failure), but what they could have controlled is how these problems were perceived by the customer, which they obviously messed up badly!
Well, is a chain of bad incident happened in the same time. But I am for sure will not return to the same shop next season. The Vale, "Yes" I am a return customer next season but only this time with a larger group.!! -

As for bindings breaking ... heck we bought a pair of top end Burton bindings in Tokyo that broke on the high back on day one and the toe strap on day two - it happens. And there was no 'abuse' to the product going on with us!
Many many years ago when Papa and I were just strating out we rented (first an apartment, and then a house) - and the thing I hated the MOST about that was the rent inspections. The feeling that someone was coming into your life and judging you, and looking for fault. It was with GREAT RELIEF that we bought our first home.
I am a bit the same way with rental equipment. I would rather buy my own than be beholding to anyone.
Mamabear is absolutely right..!! Nothing beats good customer service. When my friend brought the bindings in for an exchange, we were treated like we broke them on purpose. That was a really a bad feelings..... -

Maybe is the Vale that got the booking all mixed up. Either way, the customer service at the NBS was bad too. When the staff started to question my friends, they sounds like we are stealing for equipment or something.
Probably because they've had a lot of that this season, mostly from the Singaporean customers though.
I've seen a lot of Thai people this season. -

As has been said though, bottom line is you went away unhappy, which should have been dealt with by the staff.
Yeah, the main thing is that I went away unhappy. -

I think the binding is wearing out at the buckle end. The spring inside the buckle did not hold the plastic strap in place, so the strap came loose when my friend was on a heel side edge.

I think the picture is a little deceptive...as I have never found the Family course particularly narrow - it is certainly not a W.I.D.E course, but it is plenty wide enough. I HATE narrow with a passion - the skinny steep cat tracks all over the place in Switzerland really ticked me off, especially at peak hour.
Even at Peak Hour I have found that stretch generous enough. I think most of the way down you would be able to stand 4 to 6 boarders side by side on their heel edge without too much of a problem. From my very spatially spastic recollection...
Totally agree, it is not a narrow course. I can roll down this hill without my board and never hit a person.
