Well I think it has a lot to do with pride and being proud of where you choose to call home, your country wakaranai I agree that overused it is very unappealing

Well you don't need to sing it smile God save the queen does seem quite silly to an agnostic republican like me wink SO agreed there as well. It is the symbolism anyway, though I don't mind our national anthem, grown on me as I get older.

I am not a flag waving nationalist and don't understand why people raise a massive pole in the yard to fly the flag. I don't even like our flag that much.

Anyway does that make me a sheep, not really... I know more people that feel like you brit, certainly more than hold my views, at least amongst my circle of friends I would be an individual coolmirrors

If foreigners want to take up citizenship I don't see it as a big deal rather commend them for pursuing a closer connection to the country they want to call home.

If you felt the same way you do about your "home country" for another one you lived in it seems quite natural to me to want to be a citizen.

Surely fitting is more a case of joining in and taking part in your neighbourhood and society in general.

Well you swear an allegiance, take an oath, fly/salute that flag sing the national anthem as your own etc (at least here) obviously that isn't really worth all that much to a lot of people these days grandpa

Not at all. You can make a real commitment to a person, which generally works better within some sort of formalized framework. With something as big and amorphous as a country, it's just ... vague bullshit. (Sarah Palin is a good example of where that sort of thing leads.)

When you make this 'commitment' to Japan, what does that mean? Are you going to fight for the country? Spy for it? Throw your electoral weight behind some politician? Pay taxes? What would you do as a citizen that you wouldn't otherwise do?

Are you saying there is no difference to just living somewhere as a resident/visitor and being a citizen? Or that being a citizen (from birth or otherwise) does not entail any commitment?

    Really?
    Hmmmm, I wouldn't.
I'd expect them to fit into society, for sure.

Fit into society but not as a citizen? Personal choice of course... though I would have thought citizenship IS fitting in, officially lol

Very interesting points of view here smile
  5. I do some crossfit... just pic workouts you like and definitely do them to your own capacity than increase as required as Indo says. That makes it really good, use only yourself as the gauge.

It sucks but as my chin up are bad big time and I hate them. They do use them a bit. So MANY MANY workouts to choose from but.

I like to do a 30 min run then select an very short cross fit regime (20min) and pump that out. Good time to benefit ratio.

On another note... running a program (hill) on the running machine and keep knocking off the 'emergency switch' about half way through. Fully shuts down the machine and you have to start again from scratch angry damn that shits me. Surely you should be able to at least start it from where you stopped it to keep the details and program going...

Yeh boring alright. I like to run courses I know however, so I can break them up into sections and better pace myself, know where you get a rest etc. So a 5km run becomes say 3 x 9-10 minute sections.
  7. I am the opposite Mantas, beach running hurts too much smile

I have run on and off over my life and hate it... finishing however is very rewarding smile Try and run at least a couple of times a week - 5km and occasionally do a 10k at an amble. I always try and do hills and/or fartlek (intervals). Best work out to time ratio.
