  1. Im not attacking im trying to write in a way that isnt.

Why does everything have to come for free. Before the internet people learned how and where to ride by learning and exploring. You are talking about rope ducking and giving people information beyond a rope. And you basically helped my point about how little you do know. How does that encourage me to tell you to watch out for a hundred foot cliff in the nozawa trees or where it is? Seriously Im not there day to day nor can judge the conditions on certain days. Meet people talk to them explore safely with friends. Do so knowing that in Japan you must self rescue. Talk to patrol outside of being caught most of them will tell you the real reason why something is closed. And the best way to change things is this. Go to resorts that promote off piste skiing. Go to Charmont Cortina Niseko, go to the cat skiing operation outside of Nagano city. Ski 47s trees out so fast that they are forced to open more by shere numbers. Slackcountry as you term it should be left for people to judge for themselves.

  2. I do not hold any view to protect any line. This Forum is used as an information gateway for many holiday makers which tend to be in the mid range level. I have met many SJ people and I'm not trying to insult but they aren't avi savvy advanced skiers. That is my opinion and I'm not trying to insult anyone. This forum is not populated by professionals in the ski industry (ie patrol owners SAR) to a large degree.

If you want to ride the terrain buy a map and study it. You will see what is there and what isn't. I don't think trusting someone on an Internet for holiday makers is the way forward nor is it going to push a resort to, "properly mark their boundaries". There are more factors than you think. Are the staff even trained to open such an area. You don't know so why suggest that this rope means nothing. Hey go ahead duck it the patrol only get angry at level 2 on the aggro scale. In fact in the grand picture most of Japans best lines lay in huge terrain traps that no resort in the world would open anyways. Your Nozawa information of 3 ridges of terrain traps is a great example of how much you really don't know.

There is a certain moral responsibility that goes with telling someone where to slide. To say that there isn't and that you are just posting numbers really is not true. You are giving people information that they may/or should have learned on their own. Not because it has to be kept secret but because they aren't ready to make that decision yet. Riding in uncontrolled terrain has risks at anytime whether there is a gate or not. This is Japan for better or for worse. The systems in place at resorts may or may not be at an international standards and for the most part you just don't know. Go ask Noz how many patrol they staff for the day. Maybe then you wont encourage people to duck rope AB and C.

  3. This is kind of a cheat sheet that could get someone hurt. There are many reasons for the ropes. Many times it is because the resort is not renting the land on the other side of the ropes. I for one duck a few ropes but Im not going to tell the internet where. I dont trust a person untill I ski with them so why give away a slightly dangerous area to someone who doesnt understand the risks. Sorry Ippy but this is by far one of the stupidest and most dangerous posts I have ever seen on an internet site where the average riding level is in the mid range. If you feel the need to make a post like this maybe TGR is a better place. Other than that I would hope that this would just be deleted by the creator.

  4. The reasons I choose those are this. Nozawa has a life after skiing or riding. The town itself can make a holiday if you love an old feel to your ski resort.

Myoko hard to fault the shear volume of snow they stack up come January. They lack the BC options of Hakuba and the courses arent really that steep but

the trees go off if you know where to look. Again seeing people struggle to save there houses daily because of the snow is a bit of a turn on. Furano is sort

of Niseko east. Less snow but man it can play big. The trees are good and the town is set up and you can enjoy yourself after skiing. Also lots of options

if you rent a car or take a bus tour. There are other places of course but there in general are catering more to overseas tourists now and can deal with them

    in a reasonable way.
